Disappointment with Cunard and QV

There should always be give and take on ships. Obviously there will be those who hide the ashtrays and make a fuss...more often than not they are ex smokers...but no cruise line can afford to cut it's own throat by banning smoking completely from ships. If they did so, it would surely go underground, just as smuggling booze has done...there are so many ways of doing that you could right a book on it. It isn't that hard to avoid the areas of a ship where smoking is permitted if it grates with you so much, and by the same token, the majority of smokers are careful not to annoy their fellow non smoking passengers too.

Very well put. It's awful how since the smoking ban everyone has jumped on the ban wagon in the "we hate smokers" brigade. I'm a smoker and I understand that it's not pleasant for non-smokers to be surrounded by a cloud of smoke all the time. On the QE2 the smoking policy was definitely towards the smokers on board to the extent of having a smoking area in the restaurant. However you have to accommodate smokers in some way and I get irritated when you get loud drunken people on board but does that mean we have to send everyone who drinks alcohol outside on deck? Not all smokers are inconsiderate and unfortunately it is a fact of life that people smoke. It has been this way for years. On the QV there are not so many smoking areas as the QE2 and you are restricted to smoking in the casino and cigar lounge or certain outdoor deck areas. So if you are a non-smoker and you really detest smoking you avoid those deck areas and go to the non-smoking areas. I mean come on there are enough places for you to go! It's not like the whole ship is smoking! There are places to accommodate everyone so i can't really see the problem.

I agree with you entirely bkecky. There will always be a mix of types of passenger, from the politely considerate to the selfishly inconsiderate, and it is usually the latter who make their presence more conspicuous.

"Live and let live" I say.

David
