aged teacher Posted August 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2009 Does the train ride from Whittier to Talkeena compare with the White pass train ride in Juneau? We sail princess cruise tour Aug 24.
concour Posted August 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2009 These two train rides are very different. The White Pass train is a narrow guage train. The cars are older and reminded me of a train ride from the past. The scenery is beautiful and it is well worth the trip. You follow roughly the same route that the miners took in the 1898 gold rush to the Youkon. The trip from Whitter north also has very beautiful scenery but very different from the White Pass. If you are going to be in a cruise line sponsored car it is generally a domed car with very comfortable seats. The cruise line cars are pulled by the regular Alaska Railroad line. On our cruise to Alaska we took both and were glad we did.
