Rare Kinkacruiser Posted August 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Hi All, Following the tips here re treating my snorkelling mask last year, I have now purchased swimming goggles (chlorine stinks my eyes). Do they need the same treatment pre-use as a snorkelling mask ? ie. toothpaste to remove manufacturer's film, so they don't fog. Thanks, Anna
Scubachick84 Posted August 10, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2009 I did this to a pair of swim goggles once and scratched the hell out of the finish. I don't recommend it to you :p
BlueC5Kitten Posted August 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Not typically. At most, I would recommend using a small amount of baby shampoo to prevent fogging, but that's the most, since goggles are typically made of less durable plastics. :) Happy Cruising! heydn62 Posted August 11, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2009 I think most fogging during snorkling/diving results from inadvertant exhaling through the nose. Goggles should be fine without treating them. If they do fog initially - once they've adjusted to the water temperature, rinse them once and you should be fine. Have fun. Bonnie J. Posted August 11, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2009 You can buy a defogging liquid that comes in a small bottle. We have dive shops around us so don't know where to tell you to get it. I use it instead of spit when snorkeling. Maybe google can tell you. Or go to discoverydiving.com a local shop of ours.
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted August 11, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted August 11, 2009 Thanks folks for your input here. I will try them out at the pool first, but tend to agree with Doug i.e. that fogging is mainly from nose exhaling. I shouldn't have to do anything if that's the case. Cheers, Anna
