When do they issue upgrades? (NCL Pearl)

I've been reading about lucky folks who got upgrades, for either no free or a relatively small fee. How, when and where does that happen?

to the relatively few that it does happen do...not very often. free upgrades are very few and hard to come by. if they need your cabin for some reason, maybe a free upgrade.

up-sells happen when they are trying to fill a level of cabins. they offer the cabins, below that level, special pricing.

in all our travels, never got the call for an up-sell, never got a free upgrade on a cruise.

we hear about it so much on these boards, we forget how rare they really are. some people are just dang lucky to get upsell calls so often.

We were contacted the week before our cruise, not sure about others that have gotten the upsell call. Many years ago we were also contacted but this was back in the days of faxes and we didn't get it so not sure when they actually reached out to us. Both times we had aft/stern balconies so I am thinking maybe they wanted those cabins for somebody.
