red marks from mask

Does anyone know how to prevent that nasty red mark/ indent across the forehead from wearing a snorkel mask? I'm sure it's from too tight a strap, but if i don't tighten it, it leaks. Any suggestions?

Preventing Red Marks:

  1. Inspect the mask for crack or tears.
  2. Remove the strap from the mask.
  3. Soak the mask in mild dish soap and warm water.
  4. Lightly clean all surfaces with a soft cloth.
  5. Rinse in cold water and let soak over night.
  6. Replace water and soak again.
  7. Air dry mask.
  8. Wipe all surfaces with white vinagar.
  9. Rinse in cold water and let soak over night.
  10. Air dry mask.
  11. Remove any sand particules lodged between the len & mask body.
  12. Dip mask in "Hot" tap water for 5 minutes.
  13. When mask cools to the touch, place lens down on news paper to dry.
  14. Gentley massage the edges of the mask while drying.
  15. Wrap mask in news paper and discard.
  16. Go to local dive shop for a new mask that fits!
