From HAL into Venice

You should see if HAL offers some sort of service that goes directly from the pier to Piazza San Marco. When I recently embarked my cruise in Venice with Princess, they offered a $15 per person, direct water shuttle from the ship to Piazza San Marco that ran approximately every 15 minutes during the day. The $15 fee covered the 1.5 days we were in Venice.

However, if the ship does not offer this service, the easiest way would be to walk from the pier (or take a local bus) to Piazzale Roma, and then hop on a vaporetto to take you to St. Mark's Square.
