Diamond Princess aft cabin 732 Alaskan Cruise question

Hello, My hubby and I have booked an Alaskan Cruise for September 2010 on board the Diamond Princess (aft cabin emerald deck 732). It was the last aft cabin available, but after looking through pictures I think we are going to like being closer to the water for an Alaskan Cruise.

I was told by the Cruise specialist that this deck was in the middle of the boat and more stable. But the back of the boat is the back of the boat, and I am wondering how rocky it will be.

Also, I have read such great reviews about aft cabins, but am concerned about the "terrible smell" others have reported from aft cabins on the Dolphin deck. Have any other cruisers had experience with this?

Thirdly, has anyone actually stayed in an aft cabin on the Emerald deck? I read something about beams which can obstruct balcony views, but from the one picture I could find for this room, it did not appear so.

We opted out of the "free possible upgrade if available," because I didn't want to opt out of getting an aft cabin. Wise decision or are the mini-suites that much better? Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you. :)
