jerseygirl79 Posted August 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Just wondering. I'm getting really anxious for our trip even though I still have over 70 days to go. For those who have recently sailed her, any tips? suggestions?
LoveTravel23 Posted August 21, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2009 Well I just returned today and I def. do miss the Destiny!! What can I suggest: 1) Tea time is good but not very popular on this one but def. recommend!! 2) Record the dining staff when they are doing their dance because its hilarious!! I recorded them 3 times I believe. 3) Brent (the CD) will keep u entertained if not there are always Pip, Gayre, n Joyce-the entertainment staff. 4) If u like Sushi get their early....on the last sea day I finally made it down and when I got there I waited 20 mins. By the time I left the line was down the casino. 5) The chair hogs are not that bad. My friend and I were always able to find chairs. 6) The big one for me-night time at the Bar in the Atrium go and say hi to Vilko for me (don't worry I'll remind you). =) I'll be posting my review prob. tomorrow or Sat. w/ pics. and I don't know which itinerary you are doing but if ur doing Grand Cayman/Ocho Rios I have the capers just incase of anything. Hope this helped and that my review will help u as well. P.S. Liked the wedding pics.
cuyahoga11 Posted August 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2009 Just wondering. I'm getting really anxious for our trip even though I still have over 70 days to go. For those who have recently sailed her, any tips? suggestions? If your list is accurate, she is bigger than the other ships you have been on. Aft pool is adults only and the whole aft area is non smoking. Spirit class is my favorite but I have never had a bad cruise on any class
jerseygirl79 Posted August 24, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted August 24, 2009 Thanks! Especially about the aft pool area.

falkcor Posted August 24, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2009 How about the music lounge (cover band?) Usually Carnival has had some super musicians who play there...all I have seen were from Phillipines 'music boardwalk' is currently on destiny... this, from john heald's blog the other day: John Says: Hello Sheryl The bands whose names start with “Music” are all from the Filipinos and are wonderful 4 piece groups that play a whole cross section of music. The band currently on the Carnival Pride is called Jafar Curry, a brand new American band who from what Danny the CD tells me are absolutely fantastic. By the way………..Music Boardwalk are currently on the Carnival Destiny. Let me know if you need anything else Best wishes John http://johnhealdsblog.com/2009/08/22/freedom-ends/

alphakitty Posted August 24, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 24, 2009 Loved the aft adults only pool and hot tubs too. We sailed in February and it was enforced. :) There is a breakfast buffet at the aft pool too..and an omelet station that was never crowded. Get your free cappuccino in the dining room after dinner. :) We found the not so secret, secret door (all the way forward on decks 6 and 7)....nice deck space...but windy!! Enjoy. alandruss Posted September 16, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2009 We just left the Destiny on Saturday and had a fantastic time. Like someone else said, we also had no trouble finding chairs. There were plenty all day every day during our sailing. The band that was on board this past week was Blood Power. They are 4 brothers from the Philippines and they were excellent. We hated the shows. The singers/dancers weren't bad, we just found the 2 shows we went to to be extremely boring. Play BINGO! You can win some cash. Stevie Wonder was at the talent show. We aren't sure if it was really him, and I have read other posts where he appeared on Destiny on other occasions, so I don't know, but it sure did look and sound like him! We had a balcony room for the first time and it was wonderful. Our daughter is 3 and went to Camp Carnival daily. She absolutely LOVED it. The counselors are amazing with the kids. Our waiter was Michael who will be moving to Spirit after Christmas. He was awesome. And yes, do record the waiters dancing. We missed out on doing it the two times they danced, and I so wish we would have gotten it recorded. Our waiter was the best dancer. He was up on one of the podiums each time they danced. You'll see him I'm sure. I think he will still be on Destiny on 11/2. Sushi was good, but not as good as it was on the Imagination in 05. Not really worth the long wait in my opinion. Brent, the cruise director was great and Gayve was also very funny. Anything else you want to know, let me know and I will try to help!

tym2crooz Posted September 16, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 16, 2009 Blood Power was playing on our cruise last year - they were fantastic. I hope they stay on the Destiny for a while. We'll be sailing her next Labor Day!

afcj1 Posted September 16, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 16, 2009 I just got off on Saturday too. I'm going to try to put a review together, but here are a few things: Loved, loved, loved this cruise and the ship. It was immaculate. The food in the MDR was fantastic. There were 2 in my party and we sat with 3 ladies from England. Everyone concurred that they NEVER had a bad meal. Well...except for the piece of broken dish in my cold mango soup:eek: My friend had the sushi and said that the line was long and that they only gave you 3 pieces. She too said it wasn't quite worth the wait. The air conditioning adjustment is in the ceiling:confused: Someone from our M&G mentioned that, otherwise, I would have been looking everywhere...and definitely not on the ceiling!! Room service took >1 hr, at different times. the ladies from England also mentioned that. We ate dinner in the Universe upper level aft and it was always cold. Jacket/sweater cold. The Onyx lounge was always crowded and smokey, but the band was fantastic. That's also where kareoke was. Get there early. We got to the port @ 10:40, were checked in by 11:00 (new kiosks) and on board by 11:30. I had read about long lines at the buffet, but we never experienced that. Happy Valley the Chinese Restaurant also served omlets/eggs and sometimes french toast in the AM. Shhhh...it's a great secret;) There's a retractable roof on the aft/adult pool, in case there's rain. As for the CD, Brent (not sure of his name)...he was just annoying to me. Different strokes... It really is a great ship and was a lot of fun. The crew was superb compared to other CCL cruises I've been on. My room stewards and MDR servers were GEMS!! I'm at work w/o my notes, but again, I'm going to try and put together a full review. alandruss Posted September 17, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 17, 2009 "If you did the Eastern itinerary, do you happen to have the daily capers? I would really appreciate if you could post them, as I want to plan my days." I do have most if not all of the capers. I will try to scan them in tonight and post them for you. "What night was the deck party. Thanks." The deck party was Thursday. I didn't stay very long because my 3 year old was still in Camp Carnival that night because we watched the talent show. After 10:00 pm you have to pay the babysitting fees. We didn't care to pay and we did on a few other occasions, but by Thursday she was pretty tired. She is usually in bed at home by 10 or 10:30, so we didn't want to push her too much with having to be up early for Nassau the next morning. My husband and my parents stayed for awhile though and said it was a blast. "Thanks! We'll have 5 & 6 year olds with us. We have the late dinner. Do you know what time dinner is for the Camp Carnival kids?" I am pretty sure it was at 6pm. I think on one day it may have been at 7pm. I will have to check the capers for Camp Carnival to make sure of that. We always just took Ella to dinner with us. We had early dining so she went to dinner with us, then we took her to Camp after we were finished eating. They are wonderful with the kids in the main dining room, so if you wanted to take the kids, it would be fine. All the staff is very "kid-friendly". They let her order whatever she wanted, on the menu or off. Some nights she had chicken nuggets, others she had pizza, one night she picked steak, and they always started her off with a dish of strawberries (her favorite). Someone told me before we went that children were not allowed in the MDR, but that was not true. They welcomed her every night and it was never a problem for her to be with us. "Room service took >1 hr, at different times. the ladies from England also mentioned that." This is VERY true. Don't expect to get the food any sooner than an hour if you call room service. One night we called and they never even answered the phone. The night we did get room service in less than a half hour, the food was not good and they brought us the wrong things. I tried to tell the guy that delivered it, but he did not speak English, so all he said was "thank you, have a good night". LOL. It is free, so we weren't mad or anything, we even still tipped the guy that brought it, but it would have been nice to at least get the correct order. alandruss Posted September 17, 2009 #22 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I don't have the one from the first day. I honestly can't remember if we got one that day or not. We got something to tell us when things were going on, but I am really not sure why I don't have it. I will look again and see if I can't find it somewhere. But here are the rest starting with Tuesday:
