Recommendation for New Orleans hotel

If not before, I'm now officially addicted to cruising. I've been whining for a while now that the last two February's we were cruising (plus one last August) and I didn't have one planned for this February.

We loved the Conquest, our 1st cruise and I was just messing around today and I can get two balcony guarantee cabins for $1668.22 plus I have 15% off one fare for a total off $1589.08 - too good!! Also, airfare is always a factor because we live in Iowa. I have one free ticket coming so we would only have to pay $334 for airfare.

We weren't too impressed with the hotel we previously stayed at in New Orleans. I need some suggestions as somewhere reasonably priced to stay. We will have one night pre-cruise and one night post-cruise.

Thanks -

I stayed at the Drury Inn last October. It is just 4 blocks from the FQ and about 5 blocks from Harrah's Casino. They have a free breakfast (eggs, sausage, gravy, biscuits, waffles, cereal, etc), free internet service, free long distance for 1 hour each day. Rooms are very reasonable, each has a refrigerator and microwave with pop and popcorn supplied.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed at the Hilton Riverside in October... We LOVED it and especially loved the $99 rate... however, talk on the board is they are no longer offering the special rate and that the "cruise" rate is at $189... It is a phenomenal hotel, if you can get the $99 rate, GO FOR IT! It is very close to the terminal (I could see the ship from my room), however, with luggage, it is quite a haul and I would recommend cabbing it if you have significant luggage (It looks close but the streets in NOLA are more difficult to navigate and it is not as close as it appears)... We loved this hotel and hope to get a similar rate for our group cruise in 2006... good luck!

There is a store called the Cajan (sp) Grocery that I went to pick up some additional beer right across the street from the terminal where the road is that leads to the NCL ship. It is on the expensive side, but you can get anything you need there. You could also go the the Walgreen's on Decatur street right by Jackson Square. We picked up 3 12 packs of diet coke for 4 dollars each.

Be aware that Mardi Gras is sometime in Feb. or early March. I can't remember when. Hotels may be difficult to find because of this.

We have friends that just got back from NO a few weeks ago. They stayed at the Prytania Park Hotel and liked it very much. We are leaving for our cruise soon and have decided to stay at this hotel also. I've read good and bad reviews, but for us knowing someone who has personally stayed there helped us decide on it. We will have a living room suite with a one bedroom loft with a balcony. The room also has a frig and microwave. We paid $69 for this suite and $13 to park there including during our cruise. Ask if they have any specials, because this was special. They also told me that they have hotel like rooms for $59. They are about 12 or so blocks from the pier but you can leave your car there and take a cab. I was sent some information from NO Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the info that had on the hotel says that it's AAA Three Diamond rated and in the Garden District.

For what we need, I think it will be great. Plus the parking during the cruise is a big plus because the parking at the pier, I've heard is a mess!

Good luck.

I'm thinking about making reservations for this hotel if we can still get this bargain. We'll be on the Conquest Mar.20. What time is check in and out? I think the Conquest departs at 6 in the evening, curious what time we should head out.

The Hilton Riverside cruise "special" for February and March is $389! I just got a room for March 12 at the Drury Inn for $90. If you are going during Mardi Gras or Spring Break I suggest you get your room now. The Drury Inn was one of only a very small handful of decent places left.

I cruised on the Conquest in mid-Nov and stayed at the Renaissance Pere Marquette. It was one of the hotels offered as part of a pre-cruise deal with Carnival. I would not recommend it. We were given a room with 2 twin beds. The AC had to be set to 60 degrees in order to cool the room. To top it all off, there was a fire on the last morning of our stay. Otherwise we really enjoyed spending a couple of days in NO ahead of the cruise. The Conquest is a beautiful ship.

DH and I sailed on Conquest last November and loved it. We stayed at a B&B on Esplanade about a mile from the quarter. It was called Ashton's Bed and Breakfast. Very nice place and wonderful breakfasts. I highly recommend it.

We loved the Pelham hotel..right near Bourbon and kinda romantic(of course it was our honeymoon)we had it for $99 and then took a cab to the pier. Also stayed at the Cotton Exchange (girls only trip)and that was great too and I think that was around $99 also. Cotton Exchange is next door to Holiday Inn and closer to Bourbon then Pelham and the rooms are a more modern hotel decor(two beds,tv etc),Pelham had a big 4 poster bed with cherry wood armoire etc, very nice. Wherever you stay just enjoy, NO is a great city..:)

We stayed at the Historic French Market Inn on Decatur Street in the middle of the French Quarter. It is a great location. I found them on http://www.hoteldiscounts.com

The rate last year was $93.00 including tax and breakfast.

Take a taxi to the port. The port is close but is difficult to get to by foot. The taxis rip you off because it is so close and they charge alot. I think we paid $30 and we only drove 5 blocks.

After the cruise we stayed at the Maison St. Charles in the Garden District. Very nice and quiet. The trolley stops right in front of the hotel. It was fun taking the trolley. That room was $86.00 per nite last year. We cruised the Conquest on 6/20/04.

Hope this helps, 23_28_109.gif
