Tallinn questions

Recommended Posts

We're doing Baltic Caps in August with Celebrity. Apparently the ship docks in Muuga....does anyone have any idea how far that is from Tallinn and if X will provide a shuttle from the dock to the old town. Also has anyone used a local tour company that will pick us up where the ship docks? The ones I've found on line all start at the entrance gate to the Old Town. I'm interested in the Grieg home and museum as well as a short walking tour of the old city (I have walking issues). X has a panorama tour of the city for 2.5 hours that will leave us in the City if we want but if they do not provide a shuttle how easy and how much would a taxi for 3 adults cost?

We are doing a Food Sightseeing Estonia tour in May when we dock in Tallinn (see link below), and this tour includes transportation to and from cruise terminal. Although we are just doing the primary food sightseeing tour you can add on a city tour. Details and costs are on their web site.

Thanks for the information....I checked them out and they leave from the center of the old town...I also checked your itinerary and apparently Serenade is docking in Old Town while our ship, X Eclipse, is not. We dock in Muugga which I understand is about 15 miles away from Tallinn. You might want to confirm this with RCI because private tour companies I have contacted will NOT pick us up there.

Yes, everything I can find has the Serenade docking in Old Town Harbor in Tallinn, and so we booked the TALLINN FOOD TOUR FOR CRUISE PASSENGERS. This tour begins just outside the Tallinn Cruise Port Passenger gates, so we should be fine.

It's very unfortunate that you're docking in Muuga, which is just a big freight port. It's not the usual place for cruise ships to dock, but I know that Celebrity has docked there at least a few times before.

I think this is their regular port for Tallinn now. I'm just hoping someone can give me some information.....I appreciate the sympathy...but what I need is alternatives to deal with it. :D

We are on a Celebrity Baltic cruise this May and I had the same concern as you. I have been reassured by these posts on the Celebrity Boards:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2406884&highlight=Tallinn

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2370221&highlight=Tallinn

and the Port of Tallinn website does not refer to any passengers arriving in Muuga. The cruise schedule shows all the ships on the same schedule and seems to reference the port near Old Town Tallinn.

In any case, on past cruises with Celebrity, when we were docked a significant distance to the town to be visited, shuttles were provided (at an additional charge) so I've decided if we end up in Muuga, we would use a shuttle to get to Old Town Tallinn to begin our visit.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much....I read the pages you linked me to and I feel much better now. I wonder why they list Mugga as the port with Tallinn in parentheses...We're going in August, could you please post after you're home and tell me of your experience in Tallinn. My e-mail is chydro564@yahoo.com or post on this board. I would really appreciate it.

I will try to remember to do so. My e-docs were just issued and they do not show Muuga on the itinerary, just Tallinn, so I'm going to put this worry aside and concentrate on others - like - will it rain, how cold will it be, can I sleep when the sun rises at 4:30 in the morning...

We experienced white nights in both Iceland and Russia....you'll be able to sleep....just keep the drapes tightly closed. I'm very excited about this trip too. Been to St Petersburg before but rest is new and we're doing the B2B with Norway following.

Very encouraged to hear about your e-docs...Thanks for the update.
