Bojangles Posted August 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2015 I was wondering if anyone knows anything about mosquitoes carrying the two bad diseases. I forget the names but one is denies or something like that. The other starts with a c. I'm kind of worried about this because we are over 65. And I have some Ra. It's is suppose to affect joints. Fever. Stomach and be dangerous. Evidently it come s from Africa, Asia, South America. Has anyone else heard of this. Thank you for any info. J-D Posted August 7, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2015 Here is recent guidance from the U.S. CDC regarding the recent outbreak of Chikungunya in the South Pacific: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/watch/chikungunya-french-polynesia The other mosquito-borne disease you mentioned is dengue, which has been around for a long time and is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. You may want to consult a travel medical specialist. However, based on my layman's knowledge (and time in the region), the main things to do are to avoid or minimize being bitten by mosquitoes through use of effective repellent, and to minimize time in areas where mosquitoes concentrate, e.g., the interiors of some forested islands. Rare Keith1010 Posted August 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2015 As a precaution due to Chikungunya I would put insect repellent on. Keith
