Insurance ?

Does anyone know what they constitute as a medical necessity for cancelling a cruise. Can it be as vague as the stomach flu with a Dr.'s note? This is with insurance purchased through the cruiseline. Didn't know if anyone had experienced this. Thought they might require a more serious condition to get a full refund.

Every policy is going to be a bit different. I know this tedious but you are going to have to actually READ the documents the insurance company gave you. The definition of serious illness will be in there somewhere.

Your doctor has to certify that your are medically unable to cruise, so it shoudn't matter what the illness is, just as long as your Dr. states that you aren't medically safe to travel. If you make a claim, they are going to ask for more than a note from the doctor. They will ask for proof of doctor visits, medical records pertaining to your illness and a copy of any hospital forms and prescriptions.

I don't recommend the insurance through the cruise line because they have much more in the way of fine print exclusions than the independent insurances do. Also, if your illness was pre-existing, and you were treated for that condition within a 180 day time period, unless you bought the insurance within 10-14 days of your initial booking of the cruise, you won't be covered. If you purchased the insurance just before your cruise and you have pre-existing conditions, you won't get a refund if you have to cancel.
