LSKC Posted June 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2017 We are looking into an A-I resort (Barcelo Maya Palace to be precise) and I have not been able to find detailed trip reports like the beautiful ones posted here. Do any exist? With photos and details about the restaurants and accomodations, etc? We are very lucky to have this Cruise Critic website for our cruising resource spot. blue_water Posted June 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2017 Trip advisor is one of the biggest forums and you'll find that a good resource. This resort is near Puerto Aventuras so that would be your best option if you want to ask questions in the forum. You may also get feedback on the Playa Del Carmen forum which is to the north. You will find tons of reviews just by searching for the resort name, be sure to look at the most recent reviews. Enjoy your visit! Beautiful area, and Xpu-Ha or La Playa is our favorite beach in the area and there are many cenote.

geeko1 Posted June 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2017 a huge portion of the reviews on TA are fake. The Mexico forums are especially bad being populated with destination interests making self serving posts.
blue_water Posted June 16, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 16, 2017 a huge portion of the reviews on TA are fake. The Mexico forums are especially bad being populated with destination interests making self serving posts. geeko is greatly exaggerating. There are always going to be self-promotions and fake reviews against competitors - on any public forum. Users of public forums must use some common sense when researching to get the information they are seeking. The vast majority of reviews and posts on TA are from people like you and I. I'm sure you will want to flame me for not agreeing with you and that's fine. But the statement "A huge portion..." is simply ridiculous.
geeko1 Posted June 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2017 Can't remember it's based on the study by either Harvard or Yale so no it's not ridiculous
geeko1 Posted June 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2017 this stuff is easy to google. http://nypost.com/2016/03/01/why-you-should-never-ever-trust-tripadvisor/
blue_water Posted June 17, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2017 As I said these are public forums, and one needs to be aware of that, that's all. What I said was ridiculous was not the fact that there are fake reviews, that's a given.
geeko1 Posted June 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) this stuff is easy to google and I provided a link. You can make some extra money writing fake reviews if you need some. http://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-2376-i-get-paid-to-write-fake-reviews-amazon.html Edited June 18, 2017 by geeko1
blue_water Posted June 19, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Thanks! ;) I'm out. Just trying to give Leslie some direction as requested, not here to debate. The Barcelona forum also looks like a good resource for you.
