mcbain Posted August 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2008 We are on the Star Princess, Emerald Deck, and wanted to know if the room hair dryers are those small wall-attached hair dryers or are "better-than-average" hair dryers. My wife wants to pack one thinking the room one will be less wattage than the 1875 watt blow dryer we use for travel plus she is gun-shy about using them since on our last trip to a hotel, the little wall unit wall-dryer shorted out the entire room and had to be replaced!. Thanks.
mtaylor04 Posted August 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2008 I have long thick hair, and it takes forever with the Princess blow dryers. If she brings her own, you need to bring an extension cord...there are few plug ins
SFParrtHd Posted August 21, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2008 I'd have her bring her own - they really take a long time dry hair and they are noisey.
Toto2Kansas Posted August 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2008 The hair dryers are exactly like those found in hotel rooms. Wall mounted and not all the high of wattage.
rhgru Posted August 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2008 The hair dryer I had on the Golden Princess sucked!!! It took me 30 minutes to dry my hair and at home it takes 10 minutes!!!
Pam in CA Posted August 21, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2008 The hair dryers are the wall-mounted type and have a limited number of drying options. I don't have any problems with them nor do I think they take longer to dry my hair but they are not "better than average."
mcbain Posted August 21, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted August 21, 2008 Thanks for the info. Dare I say it but once again my wife was right! I guess blow dryers are like diamonds to women or televisions to guys-there is no such thing as one that is too big! :)
cmalibu1 Posted August 21, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 21, 2008 haha, well as much of a pain as it may be to lug a blow dryer around, I always bring mine, because like thehotel ones, they just dont do it. I have thicker hair, and with the wall ones it takes about 20 min. to just get my hair basically dry. My own blow dryer, 5 minutes.

Thanks. My LW would not only recommend that you bring one, but also that you bring a regular old power strip...useful for plugging in the portable, the cell phone, the camera battery recharger, the portable DVD player, etc.
Kathy130 Posted August 21, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 21, 2008 I have thick medium length hair, and if it takes two minutes longer, I don't mind. I'm staring out at the deep, blue sea!!
Sandytoes Posted August 21, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 21, 2008 I use the hair dryer in the cabin - makes my hair frizzy... So, I recommend bringing one.
penkitten86 Posted August 21, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 21, 2008 As all the other poster have mentioned if I were you. I would DEFINITELY pack a hair dryer. The ones on both of my cruises were just too small and it TOOK FOREVER to dry my hair. Have a great trip. edie
