alexp Posted July 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2015 Hi, we have cruised with Windstar three times, last time in December 2014, Panama Canal cruise, which we loved. We are considering taking Wind Surf on August 24 from London to Lisbon. Has anyone taken this cruise, and what did you think? We are especially curious about the on shore excursions, we would prefer to arrange our own if possible, but some of these locations are pretty remote. If you could respond before 3 PM Eastern time today (7/2), that would be great. Thanks so much!
SkiWave Posted July 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2015 We took similar itinerary last year on another cruise line (small ship), and we found the itinerary excellent. These cruise itineraries are not offered that often, and they are nice change of pace from more visited (and crowded) mediterranean ports. From Cherbourg, the highlight is the Normandy battlefields (Utah and Omaha beaches, ...). From St. Malo, the highlight is Mont St. Michel (crowded, but incredible). If you have not already visited those two areas, this cruise is great. We also enjoyed Porto (stayed in town). In Spain, we enjoyed visit to town of Betanzos (El Ferrol). Did not visit Brest or Vigo, but cant go wrong with small coastal towns in France and Spain. We have been to Lisbon several times, and very easy way finish to trip, with good airport. Hope that helps with your decision.

milepig Posted July 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2015 We did another variation of this a couple years ago. We began at lehavre and stopped at Brest, Roscoff, and Cherbourge before heading straight across the bay is Biscay to Porto and on to Lisbon. The ship was almost empty. Lehavre was sort of sad. But it is no longer on offer so no prob. Roscoff was small but charming. Too bad it's not on the itin. The captain declared the port staff idiots after they slammed the ship into the side of the dock actually causing damage. On the bright side, the entire town including grannies in wheelchairs turned out for sailaway. The Normany tour was GREAT. We also took a tour to Quimper, which we really enjoyed. Porto was a miss. We were in fog all day just outside the port. Sad. The change to do a couple stops in Spain is a great idea, since the days at sea were too many for us. This now looks like a very nice itin.
