Cobra427SC Posted February 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2009 I hear that it's difficult to get a cab from the ship's dock in Zeebrugge to Bruges itself. Is this correct? Any thoughts or suggestions on how to effect this? thanx steve
RetiredFL Posted February 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2009 We set up a pick-up with Bruges Taxi Service, http://www.brugsetaxiservice.com/eng.html and had them pick us up at the dock, take us to Bruges and then pick us back up in Bruges and return us to the ship. There were six of us and it was very reasonable. Certainly much cheaper than the ship's bus. The have smaller vehicles so they probably have good prices for 2 or 4. sheilauk Posted February 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2009 Get the train, it really is so easy. The tram stops outside the ships berth, head to the station and hop on a train. they run frequently and there is no reason to pay for a taxi, really, it's so easy. srpilo Posted February 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 It's easy, I've done it a couple of times, you really don't need a reservation... When you get off your ship there will be 6 or 7 taxi waiting there for fare's, but it's first come 1st served, so it absolutley a must that you are amoung the first in line to leave the ship, secondly, the first ones who grab the taxi for their 1st run to Brugges (they go back and forth all day when the ships are in port) get to pick the best pick up times later in the day. If you do miss the 1st set of taxi's they'll be back to pick up again after they drop of their 1st fare's off in Brugges (about 45 or 50 minutes later) but you'll miss some of your precious time in beautiful Brugges. So don't fret, just be early !! Hope it helps Srpilo

Did the cruise line make that information readily available? We did a TA/Med cruise a couple of years ago and the cruise line did not have accurate info about non-line transportation. We are sailing again this spring and will be stopping at Zeebrugge. Thanks for your post!
sheilauk Posted February 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2009 We recently went to Zeebrugge on the Ventura Weekender. There is a free shuttle bus that runs from the ship into Blankenberge ( with P&O ). From there you can catch a train into Bruges for 3 euros 20 cents, they run every hour and the journey takes about 30 minutes. The train station was opposite where the bus dropped us so it was very straightforward. Shuttle buses run to and from the ship throughout the day with the last one leaving Blankenberge at 4.45pm. If your ship doesn't provide a shuttle, then there is a tram stop outside the port in the direction Blankenberge ( right as you face the road !) Lair Bear Posted February 17, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2009 There has been a lot of discussions about this on previous posts. Go to the following http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=917764&highlight=zeebrugge First of all you should be aware that a taxi charged 45 euros for about a ten minute ride or eight miles as the crow flies. That is one way and last year. It may be more now. Second, don't think that all cruise lines provide the shuttle service to Blankenberg. If your cruise line offers this shuttle, then by all means do it. Taking the tram there is also time consuming and confusing. A direct train from Zeebrugge to Bruges is the answer (as far as I am concerned) but it depends on the season as to where it departs from. Look at the thread and perhaps our web site about the Baltic cruise we did last year. We actually walked to the Zeebrugge train station in the rain. The train fare was two euros as I recall and there is a wonderful walk of Bruges that starts right after you get off the train.
