Cabo Excursions and Money Exchange

Hi there,

We'll be on the Riviera itinerary from Oct. 18-25. As far as excursions in Cabo go, our group was looking into either the Santa Maria Cove Sail & Snorkel or the Chilean Bay Sail & Snorkel. Any opinions on either? Reasons why you may favor one over the other?

There will be a large group of us ranging from 10 years old (they've snorkeled before) all the way up to some in their 50's. We are 8 adults, 14 kids, mostly teens. Some of us have snorkeled before some of us haven't.

Also, where do you change cash into pesos? On the ship? At a bank at home? Do we HAVE to change it?

US Dollars work just fine in Cabo.

It's been a few years, but we (as a large group) went to Santa Maria Bay and enjoyed the snorkeling. The sand is not a fine as it is in the Caribbean, but still a nice place.

We arranged this tour (plus others) through Eduardo Martinez and his company Blue Baja Los Cabos (bluebajaloscabos@hotmail) or search on Facebook. Great guy. Worked everything out via email. His son met us at the tender dock, took us to his kiosk and was our guide for the day.

With a group that size (we often travel as a "herd" of nine) I would suggest Cabo Escape. They have a double decker boat that has a nice lunch (really more of a snack), an open bar, and a great staff. You will be afforded a nice boat ride of the Arch, as well as a trip to Chileno Beach where you can swim, snorkel, and enjoy a really grand view. If I were you, I would contact them in advance, and ask if they can offer a discount, if not, you might consider purchasing a Cabo Passport Card, via the internet. They are a reputable firm that offers 2 for 1 at many of the Cabo establishments (Cabo Escape being one of them.) We've purchased a Passport Card every year for the past 4 years.

We've used Cabo Escape 4 times, and have always had a great time.

As for buying Pesos.....$US dollars work okay, but if you plan on any big purchase items, you might purchase Pesos at the Cambio within Wyndham. Bring your Passport, though, and never use a stand alone ATM in Mexico. If you need to use an ATM, find one that is attached to a bank.

US Dollars are accepted. Depending where you are, they might ask Pesos or US dollars. Just note that in Mexico they also use the $ sign. So double check with the vendor/clerk on what currency it shows.

If you are going to change USD to Mexican Pesos in Mexico you will require a passport and do it at a bank or at like one poster said. If you are doing get Mexican Pesos, do it locally. I recommend going to a Currency Exchange Store instead of a bank as you will most likely get better buy/sell rates. They can be located in airports and other major places such a busy malls.

We just stop by an ATM and withdraw Pesos.

It's not necessary to exchange money if you are only going to be there one day.

Santa Maria cove tends to be a little less congested. That time of year, the water will still be very warm. Enjoy.
