Just Back from Sensation

DH and I had a great time - our 36th cruise and 25th cruise on Carnival. Ship was in great condition, food was great, and the casino was very good to us. We normally only book suites or balcony cabins, but I had a "can't turn it down" casino offer for a really, really cheap Inside cabin, so we took it. Wasn't bad for a 3 day cruise. Crew was very nice, our wait staff at Your Time Dining also very nice and very attentive. I had the Surf and Turf Steakhouse Selection (additional $20) and it was fabulous. Lobster tail was larger than what one gets on the regular lobster night and the filet mignon was perfect with a delicious sauce. Rolls always super, as are the soups and appetizers. Entrees were also very tasty. Desserts - well, we were usually too full!

A zillion kids on board, but they weren't bad as on some cruises we've been on. The obnoxious ones were the 20-somethings who drink a little too much and are so loud - they scream if they won $.40 on a slot machine and even worse at the table games.

No chocolates left at the nightly bed turn down service.

The real negatives about the cruise were the musical groups that played by the casino bar, so we could hear them in the casino where we spent most of our time. Absolutely terrible with no musical abilities at all. One was a sort of folk singer whose voice was so flat, high, and off key and his arrangements of familiar songs made them almost unrecognizable. The other was a rock'n roll group who were so loud and also off key. The female singer sang one of my favorite songs. At Last by Etta James, and poor Etta would roll over in her grave if she heard that terrible rendition. We were on the Sensation last January and also experienced really bad music at the casino bar.

DH thought the George Lopez comedian (for adults) was awful - his language was terrible, but he wasn't even funny. You expect some salty language with the adult comedians, but every other word is just too much and nothing funny about what they were saying.

We live in Florida, so easy to get to the ports without having to fly anywhere. Parking at Port Canaveral was $20 per day.

Had a great time and looking forward to cruising next on the Breeze for 8 days in November and on the Valor for 7 days in February!

Thanks for the quick review. We are on the Sensation August 13 for a quick get away. Sorry to hear about the music. I played guitar myself and I like listening to "good" rock and roll. Also sorry about the comedian. I like late night comedy but you can be funny without being disgusting. But for a quick get away I am sure it will alright.

Djptcp, they stopped the chocolates during the nightly turn down service a few months ago. Said too many people tossed them out.

We enjoyed the Sensation, our first on that class. It was a four-day to assure we'd be platinum for our Journeys cruise in October.

Didn't spend any time or money in the casino so we missed the musicians, thank God.

The one comedian we saw (twice) did the same jokes at the family friendly and adult sessions - just threw in F-bombs for the late night show. We really didn't think he was that funny in the early show and had hopes, but he was awful.

Our favorite things included the Serenity deck, the general layout of the ship and our dinners in the MDR. Our servers were so good the first night, we requested them for the rest of the cruise and we sat with most of the same people. We like ATD and thought the food was really good.

Our last cruise was on the Sensation in January and they were still giving out the chocolates at night. I used to enjoy it when I'd come back late from the casino :-) We really enjoy the ATD, too, and we kept the same wait staff and table all three nights. So did the tables around us and I know the staff was pleased we all returned.

We have sailed the Sensation many times. Each was a great cruise.

We hope to sail on her once more before she relocates to Miami.

Maybe we were lucky because they always had a good band playing live music on each cruise. Also a single or duo playing in the atrium. Both the three and four day cruises have a cruise elegant night in which they serve prime rib and lobster.
