I searched the Internet for this info and was unable to find anything so I am posting here for future travelers.

Papeete- if your iPad cellular carrier is set for auto it will find "VINI" 3G. Ping rates for VINI are 433-1591 ms. 760 avg. If your iPad cellular carrier is 'off auto' you will discover "vodafone' 3G. Ping rates are 351-435 ms. 406 ms avg (much better).

Bora Bora- only 'VINI' 3G is available. Ping rate 474-1389 ms. 775 ms avg.

Moorea-same as Papeete, but Vodafone seemed to just stop at times. Could be weather related.

Data service in Nuku Hiva French Polynesia is provided by "VINI" and the best my iPad with AT&T data plan can manage is Edge or "E". Ping rates are 2500 ms or worse with 1/3 of the packets "lost". I suspect there aren't enough people here to keep this service maintained. Most likely the whole island gets their service from the same source.

There is only one small town on the Island and was surprised they had service at all. Our ship is anchored at Taiohue.
