wwbill4 Posted February 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Has anyone done the Monkeywatch tour in Colon? Can you see the Canal during the excursion. Might the tour of Panama or the Ferry thru the Canal be better/ We are on the Summit in late March. Bill
Huey Posted February 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2005 I thought the monkey tour was in the Limon port, not the Colon port. Is that right? I was looking at that tour for our family (boys 8 & 14) would that be a fun day? The canal tours are in Colon - is that correct?
wwbill4 Posted February 25, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted February 25, 2005 It is listed on the Celebrity Web site under excursions and found in the docs as being in Colon. It is the last one listed. We leave March 21st. Have you done the Ferry before? Bill
wapanda10 Posted February 25, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Some place in Colon/Panama with wild monkeys and time approx. to go: 1. El achiote - Colon - 30 min. 2. The monkey island in Chagres river - Panama canal area - 1 hour 3. Parque soberania - Panama - 1 hour 4. Lago alajuela - Panama - 2 hours El Achiote is the most near community from any Colon port, and it is located on the way to San Lorenzo fort in Colon. From there you can hire the service of a local guide an do the hiking through the rainforest to find the monkeys spot. good luck,
Lsimon Posted March 2, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2005 I too was hoping someone could tell us about the this tour. it is listed in the Celebrity excursion guide as the "Monkey Watch". The description includes a speedboat ride through part of the Canal, then tours around islands in Lake Gatun to see the scenery and wildlife there. Sounds very interesting to me, but I'd love to hear a quick review from someone who did it. Normally we avoid cruise line tours, but are leaning that way for Panama. We're sailing on the Summit's March 21 sailing.
wapanda10 Posted March 3, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2005 Bill and Larry, You have 4 options: take the tour with the cruiser Senga is looking for a tailor trip and he is interesting to contact people to go to Gamboa Hotel and share the cost, from there he will go to the aerial tram and you will take a boat to go to monkey islands and later both can lunch or looking around the hotel and finally you could move to another interesting spot like Soberania park, Summit Garden or Miralfores locks. both want to do the monkey watching, try to organize a tailor trip with a local campany. for the Grand tour of Panama a local company already have 4 people you can join it. And share the cost. March is good time to enjoy the beauty of Panama.
