NortheastOhio Posted August 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2017 We are cruising on POA in December; not interested in renting a car Trying to decide between Roberts' Volcano and Maui Ocean Center Tour or NCL Best of Maui (includes Ocean Center tour) and Crater Sunset Tour Opinions on Roberts? I've seen some mixed reviews. Is the Ocean Center a must see? I know seeing the crater at sunset is awesome; how about during the day?
Astro Flyer Posted August 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) We drive our car on Maui so don't have any feedback on tour companies but would guess that Roberts would be less expensive than through NCL. Maui Ocean Center is a nice aquarium but isn't nearly as large as other aquariums such as the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA. I can see Haleakala from our house & it's routine to have cloud cover in the afternoon. Having experienced sunset & sunrise from the top of Haleakala, in my opinion, the sunrise is vastly better. A black sky that begins with a golden glow on the horizon is like images I've seen of sunrise in space. Sunset wasn't awesome for me & only a different vantage point for another Pacific sunset. During the daytime the experience has been compared to viewing the lunar surface & as I recall some training was done there before astronauts journeyed to the Moon. Those are merely my opinions but there are many aquariums & only one Haleakala. At the 10,000 foot summit it's about 30° cooler than at sea level & with less oxygen it can be a health consideration for some people.
