Caribbean Princess - Drydock

A ship that has been in service more than 5 years is required to have a dry dock at least twice in every 5 year period. The requirement allows for the hull and engine maintenance issues that cannot be completed with the ship in the water.

Some cruise lines chose to use dry dock time for remodeling or refurbishment of guest areas, but routine maintenance is going on all the time. Some lines will block off a few cabins or a section of the ship for deep cleaning/refurb on each of their off season cruises and do public areas during dry dock. Regardless of the choice of timing, each ship has a maintenance schedule in addition to those things which are reported as a problem and cared for on an "as needed" basis.
