  1. This is what it has under Payment of claims in the World Nomads policy underwritten by Nationwide.

"All benefits payable under this Policy shall be reduced by the amount of any
credit, voucher or refund provided by any Common Carrier, Travel Supplier
    or any other third party."

So, based on that wording, my air would not be covered if the airline issues a travel credit in lieu of a refund.

  2. I'm confused.  Everything I read on insurance company sites says they cover non-refundable items.  Anything that is refundable whether that refund is travel credit or actual refund of payment is not covered.

So, after reading that, what would be the benefit of insuring a refundable deposit? Wouldn't the insurer just deny, since you are getting that back?

    Am I misreading something?

  3. The 2 bags we have are 17x24, but have wheels, which makes them closer to 26, so I know they wouldn't be allowed as airline carryon due to the size of the overhead bins.  However, laying flat on a scanner, there would be no problem going through. We've carried on in Galveston, Miami & Ft. Lauderdale and all those scanners were larger than airport carryon scanners.  Never been to the Seattle port so no clue.

And as for those who worry about me handling my luggage, believe me, a 39 pound suitcase is not an issue for me.  I have taken my own luggage on board on many cruises - ever since hubby's cuff links went missing.  Why he put them in checked luggage is beyond me.

As for those who say the risk is too small to worry about, it's all gonna be okay - until it isn't.  A 1% chance of losing your luggage is no big deal until you are in that 1%.  And yes, I worry on the flight as well, but just don't know how to pack for Alaska in an airline carryon.

  4. I chatted again & that person said it can be measured with the suitcase laying down.  I guess we will find out the truth on Sunday when we get to the port.  I just remember the scanners in port being a lot larger than the airport scanners.

I feel like I asked about this when we first booked, but the search function didn't help & it was probably back in 2019 when we booked that first 2020 cruise, so things could have changed since then anyway.

  5. Thanks for the info.  The port scanners on our Carnival cruises could accommodate a full size suitcase. They don't care how tall they are, since they lay down on the scanner.  They only care about the height/width laying down.  Our new suitcases are smaller, but still 26 inches when you take the wheels into account.

Now I am wondering if they meant laying down.  Maybe I will give them a call in the morning.

  6. I thought I had asked this before, but maybe not.  Does NCL allow you to carry on your own regular-sized suitcase?  All other cruise lines that we have sailed will allow you to do so - you go through security just like when you are in port or at an airport.  NCL chat says nothing over 24x18, but I never know if chats are real people or just programmed bots.

  7. This will be my first NCL cruise, so I'm a complete newbie when it comes to their site.

I haven't complete the process, only because I do want to be able to change the time if need be.  So I guess I will just wait.  Apparently the problem our friends are having is a widespread NCL glitch.

  8. Anyone know if you can change your selected check in time?  Trying to check in with our friends, who are having technical difficulties at least until tomorrow.  So, if I can select a time with the ability to change it if need be, I'm good with that.  I just don't want to select my time tonight, then find it full when our friends get ready to select.

  9. We travel with another couple and one of the things we enjoy is sitting together on our balconies.  In the old days, the guys would have a cigar out there.  Of course, that is no longer allowed, so we like to sit out there with a drink & just talk.  It's always been nice to enjoy the peace & quiet.  Most of the time we have been able to have the divider open.  Occasionally, we have not - either due to cruise line policy at the time or window/door configuration of the cabins. We always ask, but if the answer is no there is no reason to be hateful to any crewmember.

  10. We were thinking of purchasing so we would also have a bottle to take ashore.  While I have brought my yeti with me before, I always worry I will leave it somewhere.  With the cartons of water, at least if I walk off without it, I'm only out what the water was, not for a refillable cup/bottle.  Plus, I can toss the empty carton instead of carrying it around.

  11. Does Galveston have a car rental return?  Seems like we looked at renting a large vehicle for a family trip.  I can't remember if it had to do with returning the vehicle or if we just couldn't find anything suitable.  Ended up driving down in 3 vehicles & parking across the street from ship.

  12. Rebooked my cruise for 2022 & staying optimistic.  I really miss cruising.

Electro, I know what you mean by the fingertip handshake.  I worked for an insurance company & shook a lot of hands.  I usually got a surprised look because I apparently have a strong handshake for a woman.  Maybe comes from years of dealing with horses.  Anyway, had to laugh about the germ comment.  We typically shake hands or hug at church - well not this year, but back before covid.  I'm sure I've been handed plenty of germs.  Hopefully, it just made my immune system stronger.

  13. We are in the same boat.  Our 2020 cruise was cancelled & we took the 125% FCC, never dreaming that this pandemic would still be going on.  So, our 2021 cruise was cancelled.  We are to the point that we would have been happy this time to just get our original amount refunded.  However, that's not how the FCC works, even on a double cancellation.  So, we rebooked for 2022 & just hope that this pandemic is over & NCL is still in business.  My current beef is with American Airlines, who says they will issue a credit, but it's only good until the end of this year.  That's annoying because I don't have anyplace to go this year.  Anyway, I suppose we'll figure something out.

  14. 28 degrees right now.  I will welcome being above freezing.  We got a little more sleet/snow last night. We've been fortunate that our power hasn't gone out.  I know some that have been out for days.  Our hot tub has icicles hanging off the cover from the condensation.  Still a toasty 104 degrees inside though.  I'd love to be in it, but I sure would dread getting out. My main concern right now is my outdoor faucets. They're covered, but I worry that isn't enough.  Plumbers are gonna be real busy when the thawing begins.

  15. Yeah, I figured they would not go back to the original booking, but I asked anyway.  As my hubby always says, you don't get what you don't ask for.  All I can do at this point is remain optimistic that they will get some ships on the water and maybe we'll be able to do our cruise next year.  At least I have all my warm Alaska clothes to wear during the deep freeze we are having down here.  I don't know about San Antonio, but it is miserable in the DFW area.  It was really crazy to see pics of snow in Galveston.
