  1. Thanks everyone for the info. I will check my cruise doc. When I print them.

I didn't mean to inflame anyone about the right or wrong of the free cabin. The offer was over March 3rd so right or wrong it is what it is and we need to move on. If you feel wronged the best thing to do is take it up with Carnival and not the lucky innocent who received the offer. If Carnival gets enough flack from their loyal VIFP's I bet they won't do this again. I'm sorry for you pain but it's time to move on.

  2. It is a long, wonderful drive and the steep drop offs occur on only short sections of it.

It should not be a problem, unless you are the driver.

If someone else does the driving, you can look the other way, or even sit with your eyes closed while passing through those areas.

It would be a shame to miss out on an entire wonderful 5 - 7 hour trip for just those few minutes.

Maybe your doctor would even give you some type of tranquilizer to take.

Some cruise passengers I know are probably thinking about some cocktails they enjoy, after which they are not afraid of anything. :D

Thank you for the info. We are discussing it and I may go for it. I won't do any zanex but the cocktail idea sound appealing! :-)

  3. Your post has inspired me to re evaluate my "free" cruise in June to Alaska. The excursions are very expensive. If we take the 2 that we want it will come to more than the port charges, tax and upgrade fees that I paid to go on the cruise. My DH reminded me when I went over my wants, "remember this is a free cruise". That's what I said when I talked him into it! Lol! It is great to see that you had tons of fun for a low price. I think we might have to do the same as this is a bonus vacation (we already had Maui planed and booked for August). Thanks again for the review.

  4. Thank you everyone. Wonderful suggestions. I didn't know it but my husband has done the bus trip to the top of the pass. He said that I definitely would not be able to handle the drive! I did go to the cruise ship site and right now the glacier point safari looks appealing. I'm going to do further research and I'm still open right now. So keep the suggestion coming!

  5. After talking to one of my friends who has been to Skagway about renting a car and driving to Emerald lake, I'm re thinking my decision. I am afraid of heights. Especially when it involves a car and steep drop offs. I freak out and my DH and I usually end up in a fight because I'm so freaked! My fault totally but it is something I can't control!

Anyway, what else is a must do if we don't do the drive? We are healthy 54 year olds that are active but we don't want to do any thing too difficult or "extreme". It's vacation. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Linda

  6. This will be our first Alaska trip as well & we too are doing the Green Jeep Rental. There are 5 of us, 2 over 6" tall, so we splurged on the 5 passenger Jeep. We are looking forward to having the time to ourselves, we did buy tickets for the Carcross buffet, museum & husky camp but other than that, our time will be ours.

Do you get the tickets through Green Jeep for the buffet, museum and Husky camp?

  7. Sacnaillady, I hope you are in the Sacramento area. I need a good (New) nail tech! If you are please email me at leslibeach at gmail dot com. Thanks!

I sent you an email with my info. I'm in Folsom to be exact. So if that works for you give me a call.

  8. If you want to go back to Gel polish go have a nail professional soak them off with pure acetone. Don't go to a discount shop! They will yank them off! Hopefully your nails aren't too damaged from the nail school. If they are, you will have to go through the grow out process. Get a good protein treatment such as Nailtek if you do have damage.

  9. I'm a nail tech. Don't go to a discount, strip mall, nails only salon run by someone who you can't understand and can't understand you! Call up some reputable full service salon and pay a few bucks more (maybe) and get someone who knows how to use their tools and uses good name brand product. Ask questions. Tell them what you want. Make sure they have experience and have been doing nails for at least two years.

Doing nails properly is an art. Not everyone can do them and do a good job. Take time to find the right person and build a relationship with them just like you would your hair dresser. Don't just pop into a walk in salon in the nearest strip mall. Make an appointment and get them done right. Your nail beds will thank you.

As far as nails adhering, yes they will adhere without grinding. I use the e-file on the acrylic then I take my hand file to buff the shine off the natural nail at the cuticle. I the apply the bonder, then acrylic. If I'm doing a new set I only buff the shine off the natural nail with a low grit hand file.

I'm pretty passionate about this because I've seen too many jacked up nails. Good luck in your search. If I can help with any specifics let me know. I'm happy to help.

  10. We plan on flying the day of our cruise. My father n law we be visiting us the night before. Southwest lands at 11am and Alaskan lands at 9:30 am. We live in Las Vegas so there really isn't any delay due to weather. The only delay in landing in Seattle would be fog. I don't think that is likely in June.

Have you had issues with delay of flight or late luggage?

We're in the same boat. Flying day of from Sacramento end of June. I think we will take the earliest flight just in case of any hitches. And since you got FFTF you can sit in the VIP lounge and get on first!

  11. ok here it goes.. the poster above told you how to book the steak house for a certain night.. cost $35

hint about chef's dinner and booking it before you get on board.. use the same page for the steak house booking. On the very first line for first name put your first and last name in the block

In the block for your last name .. type in that you want to make reservation for chef's dinner

put your booking number in the block that it ask for

for the date just put any date in the week you are sailing...

I have booked our chef's dinner this way (4 times) and without fail it has worked. I have recieved a confirmation from the steak house about the chef's dinner. $75 each and worth every penny

formal night I believe was the second and fith night

enjoy alaska the best cruise i have ever been on.

Thank you. I will do that. I think we will do steakhouse for my birthday(which is formal night) and chefs table when ever they have it. It sounds like a great time!

  12. I went to "Manage Cruise" section on Carnival.com and went to a section that said Steakhouse by onboard activities/excursions/etc. There's an email address to email your reservation request and what night/time and they'll email you back. I'm pretty sure it's $35/person and it'll be charged to your S&S account.

I've gotten my confirmation, so I think the sooner you act, the better your chances.

How long after you made reservations did you get your conformation? I just made them but the web site is acting up.

  13. I don't get the people that say they have no problem finding chairs! The last 4 or 5 cruises I have had a heck of a time finding a chair. And I'm not talking pool side. My last cruise I looked on the adult deck, the 4 levels above the pool, the side decks that don't even face the pool. Could I find I chair? No. The towels had taken ALL the lounge chairs..ALL! My husband and I finally found 2 chairs on the side deck in the shade with no towels and sat and were promptly attacked by people who didn't speak English that those were their chair! They just got up to hang at the rail! One of their friends could have hung back or they could have left something to show they were occupied.

I don't think anyone should be able to drop a towel and leave. If there going to the pool to swim there should be flip flops, sunscreen, magazines ect. And if those items are there, if the person isn't back in 1/2 hour they should confiscated by ship personnel. In my experience chair hogging is a huge problem.

How to combat it. I think some cruise lines have personnel that put stickies with to time on the chair and confiscate the items left after that 30 to 45 min. time. If the towel guy shows up at 10 and nobody is in the pool and most the chairs have towels he should round them up right away and start the day out right! After couple of days of that it ought to fix that problem.

On my June cruise I think I might finally be able to go on deck at noon and find a chair. Alaska!
