  1. I'm booked on a family mini-suite and I'm not really sure what I'm getting for the price. We were on the Carnival Pride last year with an ocean suite, not the highest room category. We had the bath tub, a walk in closet, and a nice balcony with a lounge chair. It seems like the only extra we're getting with the family mini-suite is the bath tub. Is it worth it? Is there much more space than a regular balcony room? We'll be traveling with our 3 and 5 year old. It will be nice to be close to the kid's club, but I'm not sure how much use we'll get out of it. I'd rather have the larger room and balcony.

  2. Is the daily service charge the same as tips? I was talking to someone I booked with at PriceLine and they said it was an automatic charge and were not sure if it could be removed. On all of our prior cruises we've been able to take off that charge and tip in person or change the amount we're charged. Can you still do that?

  3. Thanks, I have the room size for the Breakaway, but I can't find it for the Pride. What I'm looking at says a family suite's balcony is 32 sq ft and the room is 239 sq ft. A large balcony room is 289 with a 103 sq ft balcony. It doesn't make sense to me that there would be such a big difference. Is that right?

  4. We booked a family suite on the Breakaway, but the more I look at it, the other suites seem significantly larger. It will be nice to be close to the kids club, but not necessary. Our children will be 3 and 5, so they'd probably prefer a bath, but they could deal with a shower. We were on the Carnival Pride last year and found the Ocean Suite comfortable for the 4 of us, but I can't find the square footage to compare.

  5. We left on Easter with carnival last year. Instead of Easter baskets I got the kids mini backpacks with small toys, play dough, and coloring to keep them busy on the cruise during dinner. The only mention of Easter was what I think they called an egg hunt. It was basically a scavenger hunt and when you got to each station they gave you a candy. My 4 year old was kinda disappointed because it definitely wasn't the egg hunt I told her it would be

  6. We're going on the Breakaway in November. We've done a Disney excursion in the past and we'd like to do it again. We did seem to spend a little too much time sitting on the bus waiting though. I was thinking of buying Disney tickets on our own and taking a car service. Has anyone ever done that? How does the price compare to doing an excursion? We're docked from 12-9, not sure how late the car service runs

  7. I thought I read a post that said parent's don't get pagers unless their child is in a diaper. Is this true? I'm cruising with my 3 and 5 year old in November and it seems pretty crazy to leave them in a strange place with strange people and them having no way of getting in touch with me. My daughter has an allergy, I'm assuming she won't come in contact with peanuts, but if something happens I'd have to give her the epi pen.

  8. we're going on the Breakaway this November with our 3 and 5 year old. Are their age or height limits on the water slides or any other activities? They're both very tall, my older one is about 46".

Also, how is the kids program? Do they take them for dinner? We were on the Carnival Pride last year and my daughter went a few times, but she wasn't too excited about it. My son refused, but he was barely 2, so hopefully this time he'll be more interested.

  9. We just booked the Breakaway in November. We're going to go to Disney when we stop at Port Canaveral. We did this last year and loved it, but I'm wondering if we'd have more time and get a better deal if we bought tickets on our own and rented a car or if there is a shuttle services or anything available.

Also, we have a mini suite booked. Are there any perks to this? We did a suite with Carnival last year and had priority check in, with 2 little kids it was nice.

  10. We were on the Pride last week and overall had a nice time. Dinners were tricky, we were traveling with my daughter who had just turned 4 and my son who is almost 2. Every night the table was set for four with the china and 2 glasses for each of us so the 1st thing we did was try to stack things up to make space for the kids so they wouldn't break anything and because they usually wanted to color or something. Kind of annoying, but not a big deal.

I found ordering a drink near impossible. It took forever to get a glass of wine, one night I even had to remind them. I decided to just buy a bottle. As the drink waitress poured my glass, with a full bottle, she dropped the bottle and broke my husband's water glass. I guess she was embarrassed or something. Without a word she picked up the broken glass and left. She didn't apologize, she didn't bring my husband a new water glass, and she did replace any spilt wine. I understand things happen, but I really didn't like how she handled it. On the survey I got I did include this event under things that surprised me in a negative way. Would you take it any further? Would you have said something on board? We're not planning on cruising again any time soon, so it's not like I want an on board credit or discount or anything.

  11. we just cruised w/ my 23 month old. He's too big for an umbrella so we used out BOB jogger. Other than not fitting through the stateroom without being folded it worked great. He was so comfy in it he slept very easily. I did see a family with a little boy constantly on a leash. I think if it works for your child its fine. I"m not sure how the carrier would work.

  12. we just went last week and I didn't realize there was an all inclusive option. We paid $30/adult, kids 3 and under are free, I'm not sure what the child price was. The beach was nice, wish the water was a little warmer and it could have been a little cleaner. They had some nice water actives, beautiful pools, although again a little dirty.

We paid $25 for a taxi there for the 4 of us. I had a feeling we were being ripped off, but I was too confused when we 1st got off the boat to try and figure out the bus. When we left the bus was really easy, pulled right up and I paid $5 for the 4 of us. I had a 1 and 4 year old I'm not sure if I had to pay for them but since they were passed out I just wanted to go.

  13. Just got back from the April 20th sailing. This had been our 1st cruise since having kids and the goal was to have a nice family vacation without the kids being too cranky. We accomplished it. If it was my husband and I we would have been disappointed. The ship wasn't the fanciest, the shows weren't the best and the schedule wasn't packed, although I did enjoy the family comedy, never made it up for the adult shows. The food was just ok and although many of the staff was great, it wasn't the friendliest I've met.

My 4 year old went to camp carnival after dinner while we'd go to the shows. She liked it, but didn't beg to go or refuse to leave. There were two women from the Philippines who were wonderful, the other woman was South African and I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling from her. The 1st day she rushed me as I tried to help my son adjust. The only night she was there she called me after an 1 1/2 hours to tell me my daughter was fine but was asking to leave, it was the only night I got a call like that. I was able to pass my son off for 2, they never questioned it, but he was not interested in staying.

The kids loved the pool. When I saw other kids in there with swim diapers I let my son go too. If I didn't allow him in or had brought a baby pool, he wouldn't have been happy. They did drain the pool twice for something that looked like puke, but never had anything to do with the babies and everyone seemed to enjoy watching the little ones circle the pool over and over and over again.

We did Magic Kingdom at Port Canaveral. I was worried it would be too rushed, but it worked out fine and we got alot in. At Nassau we took a taxi ($25) to Melia and a $5 bus home. They loved the pool and the beach was nice, a bit too much seaweed though. Freeport was a nice morning. Did a little shopping, hung out at Senior Frogs and then to the pool. I couldn't justify spending $120 on a beach day I'd have to wake the kids up and drag them out of bed for.

Disembarkment was incredibly slow. We didn't get off the ship till 1:00. They did keep the food going, even lunch was served. Luckily we were able to get up top when it warmed up a bit and did some golf.

The kids also really enjoyed the music by the pool, golf, basketball, and the ice cream! It was a great family vacation, but not necessarily a great cruise.

  14. I finally convinced my husband to cancel Balmoral Island and do a day pass. I think I remember Hiltons seeming the best choice for us. We'll be in Nassau Thursday 11-7, we're looking for a beach and pool with activities, non motorized boats, inflatable, sand toys, ect. It seemed like we could do this for under $50 an adult. We'll have a 2 and 4 year old that are very active and adventurous. What should we do? How do we get there? How much will it cost? We're coming in on the Carnival Pride.

  15. I'm checking the weather at the ports we'll be at next week and I was really surprised to see Nassau will be in the 70s. Everyone is always at the beach, so how will it be so cool?
