It seems that different rules apply to each country.
Regards
Jay (Australia)
You are absolutely correct. Different rules do indeed apply to different countries, but it is not Celebrity who makes those rules. The different rules are made by the different countries, each with their own set of "consumer protection" laws and regulations.
Your displeasure should be directed at your country's government not at Celebrity. The fact that ANY cruise line can operate in the morass of various national requirements and directives is truly astonishing.

What you seem not to understand is I LOST SOMETHING THAT I PLACED A VALUE ON. It is Not for you to judge what I may or may not value !
I had planned a 3 day cruise in CC in Jan specifically so my transatlantic would be as ELITE.
The ELITE members LOST NOTHING and in FACT GAINED the moon and the stars so to speak Elite+ and Zenith). So they got new perks that they didn't even know existed.
CLASSIC members were years away from Elite regardless, BUT I was one $300 weekend cruise away and NOW I AM NOT. Something I was about have has been taken away.
THE GOAL POST HAS BEEN MOVED and THAT IS UNFAIR
CELEBRITY OBVIOUSLY ACKNOWLEDGED the INEQUITY and added points to the Select accounts BECAUSE THEY KNEW they were SCREWING US.
I think you could further improve your case/argument by pouting, stamping your feet, and perhaps slamming a door or two.
Holding your breath has also been known to work on some occasions.

Bingo - give this poster a cigar.
I see what's goin' on here... wanting to give out even MORE free perks for CC posts "loyal" to Celebrity...
I will NOT stand for this second class treatment!
I *D*E*M*A*N*D* MY free cigar too! I have been a loyal Celebrity poster and I think its is COMPLETELY unfair to give a cigar to one poster and not another. ;) At LEAST give out some Cigar equalization points!!!
I am going to write a letter to my congressperson and DEMAND equal treatment when it comes to handing out cigars! :p
A FAIR program would have allowed ALL posters an EQUAL opportunity to compete for those cigars.
I am going to call my lawyer and start a class action suit against the perpetrators of this ill conceived, poorly executed, unfair and most likely ILLEGAL scheme for the preferential handing out of cigars.

I just think they should give everyone bonus points.
AND a PONY!

From my perspective, it seems to be all marketing gimmickry.
You pretty much nailed it!

Ridiculous......12 night cruise in June.........
Discounts:
Best cruise fare shown
Cruise Fare: £3,978.00
Taxes & Fees:Help £126.00
Gratuities: £178.56
Total GBP £4,282.56
All Celebrity prices for sailings in Europe are ridiculous, who can afford balcony room for 11 day cruise for 2 over $5K ??? Also round trip flight is at least is over $2K...Pay NO attention those P.T. Barnum inspired prices!!! Step right up!!!
Book NOW!!! Book EARLY!!!! Get your FAVORITE cabin!!!
Enjoy the MANY long months of ANTICIPATION planning for your cruise!!!
Take advantage of the PERSONALIZED SERVICE to "manage" your reservation!
Pay WHATEVER price Celebrity marketeers think they can get...just because!
I have been on exactly FIVE Celebrity cruises and am now "elite."
Each was 14 or 15 nights, the prices were $799, $599, $609, $599 and $449.
Each included a MINIMUM of $250 OBC, up to a maximum $400 OBC.
But I digress... back to marketing... Step right up! Book NOW! Book EARLY!

Hmmm.... so, the guy/gal who has worked for the big corporation for 6 years gets a bonus, and the guy/gal who has worked for the same big corporation for 24 years gets nada?Well, you can always take your business elsewhere and that's what I'm considering doing.
WWHOOOSSSHHHHH...
Have fun on either Carnival OR Crystal.

Have you ever heard of Perfect Cruise Lines? Their ships are based in Utopia. All the free cabins are Presidential Suites. It's an all free cruise. Even the casino! Everyone is a BIG winner! They ask each passenger what their specific likes and desires are prior to sailing....... Get a grip folks! Yes, you can "vote" with your wallet and go elsewhere. I won't mind!:D

Hi guy!!! Sure enjoyed our time on Reflection and your stories about our mutual experiences! Did you notice it's happening again right here and now?
After Flex got into Miami, I got to see the Mars Maven launch at KSC thanks to a guy I met on Silhouette in April.
I can't wait for Diane to meet you guys next time! Any idea how I can get a hold of Burke?

A 15 night transatlantic cruise on Celebrity Reflection... :)
...for $449pp with a $250 OBC. :D
To me, that's one mighty fine reason to take even an inside GTY! ;)

I do not understand what this has to do with my original question. Perhaps you posted this in error?
In general, booking far in advance, directly with the cruise line, especially through the use of a future cruise credit while onboard, ensures you will pay a significantly higher total price for your cruise.
In general, booking after final payment date, through an online agency, that offers lower prices through "group rates," as well as other perks such as prepaid gratuities, almost guarantees you will pay a significantly lower total fare.
The P. T. Barnum inspired slick marketing ploys hyped by everyone from used car salesmen to cruise lines are exactly that... slick marketing ploys. They make you THINK (incorrectly) that you got a good deal.
If your priorities dictate that you must have ONE particular cabin, (out of the thousand or more on a ship) and you must have it 6, 12, or 18 months in advance, to be able to plan ahead or enjoy the anticipation, and you must book it through the cruise line so you can have "personalized" service... just know that you will be paying a premium price.

I just returned from Reflection's transatlantic sailing. The "Cirque" style show was the BEST I have seen, VERY impressive. (as opposed to the boring excuse that was the show on Silhouette in April)
I thought the first of the Sin City Comedy acts was poor, but the second act (joined the ship in the Canaries) was hilarious.
The Beatles Tribute Band was quite good and thoroughly enjoyable.
Most of the Beyond the Podium Speakers were quite good with only one notable exception.
Any personal critique of entertainment can be as subjective as those of food. The only way to know, is to see it and judge for yourself.
Many different acts cycle through each ship at different times, but I would give the overall entertainment, a grade of A- or B+

All of this is pure speculation. Folks are getting their knickers in a twist without knowing if there is something to be upset about.
Yup!
-
I just returned from Reflection's 15 night transatlantic cruise, for which I paid $449pp (yes it was an inside cabin) and received $250 (shareholder) OBC.
This was my fourth Celebrity transatlantic in 18 months, and the HIGHEST I ever paid was $609pp with $400 OBC, the others were both $599.
If your priority is a specific cabin/type just know you will pay for it and I will thank you.

The details of Oz and NZ staggered boarding times are on the Celebrity Australia site:
http://www.celebritycruises.com.au/content/en_AU/staggered_checkin_times.html
The referenced announcement uses the word "RECOMMENDATIONS"
The times are not mandatory. You won't be denied boarding. JEEZ!
It's just a way to try and stagger the workload to reduce wait times.
-
Darn' date=' I was hoping to see some really good Celebrity cruise deals.[/quote']
Cheap prices?! Don't make me laugh! We never had to pay so much for our cabin on our upcoming Silhouette cruise next March!
How much cheaper do want...
12 nights on Silhouette, Rome to Venice on 19 OCT, at $599pp with $300 OBC
15 nights on Reflection, from Rome on 1 NOV, at $749pp with $375 OBC
14 nights on Equinox, from Barcelona on 25 Nov, at $649pp with $375 OBC...
14 nights on Infinity, from Harwich on 24 OCT, at $599pp with $300 OBC...
14 nights on Silhouette, from Rome on 1 DEC, at $749pp with $350 OBC...
27 nights on Constellation, from Istanbul on 14 Nov, at $1378pp with $625 OBC
Can anyone refresh my memory... Do People in Europe have access to Choice Air, and are the rates the same as in the US???

Based solely on the 5-6 videos I watched, Perry Grant is the antithesis of Modern Luxury.
I'm sure he has his fans and they should watch him entertain on a HAL ship.
Andy, perhaps I missed it but I have not seen any rude comments on this thread. How about this...

My dining friends that night were dressed in dinner suits, with ties or bow ties.
The ladies had formal type dresses on, which to me looked like something out of the 1920's - sorry to say that, but, that's how it looked like to us.
I guess each generation dressed the way, that they have been "used to", eg. formal wear, smart casual, normal suits, etc.
And soon enough, the capricious and arbitrary "fashion standards" of today like tuxes and ties, will join the powdered wigs and petticoats of yesteryear, and be viewed with equal amusement and judged as equally absurd.

I just did my first cruise with Princess last month, a 14 night to Alaska on Diamond. I have to agree that the Dirty Banana was REALLY good but I can't believe no one has mentioned the Bahama Mama!
I had $500 OBC and I am pretty sure at least $350 of it went to those INCREDIBLY delicious concoctions at both Skywalker's, (normal sized drink) and the bar next to Crooners... MASSIVE INDUTRIAL STRENGTH ONES!!!

I have a closet full of very nice dark business suits etc. Have not worn them since I retired three years ago.
I have absolutely NO intention of dragging them along on our travels, ......including a cruise vacation. Formal evenings in the MDR are no longer anything special for us. One of the reasons we like Celebrity is the options that they provide for on formal evenings.
Besides, the more we travel the less we want to pack.
But...but...but, you won't be "in with the in crowd."
You could be shunned by the sophisticatedly fashionable.
You could be looked down upon by the tres chic style conscious.
PLEASE, for the sake of civility and cultured behavior, I beg you to reconsider such a rash decision.

I don't think I'd care if they put me in a cockpit jump seat, galley, or lavatory.
Choice air to Istanbul on Lufthansa for the 12 Nov Constellation cruise is $429
Lufthansa's website will sell me the same flight for $1,434
$1,005 will by me a LOT of checked bags.

Why would Celebrity choose to have different rules in different countries? Seems like an awful lot of hassle that would cost a lot in time, training, money and customer satisfaction.
I may be confused but how could using a travel agent in the US result in any differences as opposed to using a travel agent in a different country?
Could it be that Celebrity HAS to conform to different rules/laws/requirements in those different countries? Anybody in the know?
