Should I have called Guest Relations instead of mentioning it to our room attendant?
Housekeeping would be my first choice. Guest Services after that. As a suite guest you would have access to a Concierge as well. While I would not consider this sort of request to be a primary role of the Concierge if you had any trouble after first calling Housekeeping they may be able to make things happen.
I have had a bad remote control (not sure if it was remote itself or batteries) and 1 quick call to housekeeping was sufficient to rectify.

Have never heard of anyone leaving small tips in MDR for regular service. You're already paying "behind the scenes" so everyone is compensated fairly and there isn't awkwardness.
The only one feeling awkward or funny is the OP. And if makes you happy, OP, to tip at each meal go ahead, they sure won't stop you, but I find it very weird to do so after you are already paying the DSC.

I had made a response that I believed the cruise line should inform guests ahead of time if they know new venues will not be operating as advertised and it was removed :confused:
