  1. I am on a cruise that sails from Sydney and per the Australians on the cruise (which is billed in US dollars) Princess is currently offering a very good exchange rate for on board credit. From a posting on our roll call, Golden Princess April 6, 2016.

"I phoned them about the OBC as the personalizer didn't make it clear what currency you were buying, although it was odd that the amount was $110 not $100. The person I spoke to assured me that I was buying USD OBC at AUD $110 for USD $100. He did the transaction on the spot and I pay it when I pay the final payment in January."

I have not verified this, per current exchange rates $100 US should be $139 AUD.

  2. We are booked on Golden Princess 21 days from Sydney to Hong Kong on April 6. Looks like the Golden is in for major overhaul right after that cruise and there are no further Golden cruises until October, is this correct? On the Princess website they have prior to October 2016 deck plans and after October 2016 Deck plans. For the life of me I don't see any differences or am I not looking hard enough? Cruise appears to be lightly booked, price has dropped twice in the past two weeks.

  3. I just noticed that the Celebrity website says for Aqua Class: "Welcome bottled water". I was under the impression it was two bottles per day, or some said even say much you want, which is correct? We may be the only passengers without a beverage package as when we booked 1-2-3 was not in effect and when it was the price was much higher, almost double the price.

  4. I had no problem with e-mail but they do seem to only do e-mail once a day or so, there may not be instant answer. The person in the office, Shona, also fuels the plane, takes care of the passengers prior to and after the flights, drives the van to pick up people, etc so it may be a day or so to answer, from my experience. We flew with Michelle on August 12 and had a fantastic time. My wife keeps reminding me that Michelle put her in the back of the plane as she was the lightest person in the group. I cannot say enough good things, book today as it was one of the highlights of our cruise. (the other being the boat ride in Tracy Arm).

  5. I have heard that you can't walk from the street to the pier, do to traffic concerns.

Both days Sundays Aug 10 and Aug 17 they had security guards directing traffic where you had to cross streets. They have a path marked with hassmarks and is safe to walk. You do need to show the security guard at the bottom of the stairs your ID and cruise ticket. Several other people where also walking to the street. The street is elevated on an overpass (Magnolia bridge?).

  6. Just got back from the Grand Princess. Our flight landed at 0800 and we wanted to do some sightseeing at Seattle Pioneer Square first, at the airport I asked the Princess rep about transferring luggage only and they said they now will transfer luggage from SEATAC to Pier 91 for $3 a bag (Princess and Holland America). We did this and next saw our luggage when it was delivered to our stateroom! Took light rail from airport to downtown, explored some and had a nice seafood lunch and then took number 24 bus from downtown to pier 91. People had said it was a long walk from bus stop to shop but less than half mile, had no problems. On return used EZ check and the bus and lightrail to airport, beat the traffic.

  7. I was at the passenger service desk one day and the person next to me was refuting a charge. The agent went in to the office and came out with a stack of receipts about a foot high and was going through them one by one looking for the receipt of the charge in question. So Princess does save all those receipt from the bars, etc. Now if they would only go electronic could save a lot of trees.

  8. I agree with Pam, we usually do not take the insurance knowing the risk that there is a possibility we will have to cancel, it is a risk we are willing to take. After all the insurance companies are betting, and make money, that they will take in more in premiums then they pay out. However, if the itinerary changes and is not what you contracted for, then I would think they would have a liberal policy of allowing changes or cancellations. It is kinda like me saying, I know my cruise leaves on Sunday but I will get there Monday, that's okay right? A contract should not be one sided. My opinion.

  9. As It appears you are going to miss boarding your ship, can I use your tickets?:D

We are not going to miss the ship but if we did you would have to fight my wife for them. For personal reasons we cannot fly in a few days early so I booked a flight that gets into Seatac at 8:10 am after explaining to my DW why she has to get up at 0400 on our vacation for a 6:20 am flight. We have plenty of time for any issues such as late flight and there are lots of lights from SF Bay area to Seattle if ours is cancelled or something. I used to live on Bainbridge Island, across the sound from Seattle, from 1981-1983 and have taken many business trips to Seattle with my wife coming with me so we have done all of the basics so I am very familiar with Seattle. Actually our two favorites are the Chihuly exhibit at Seattle Center and the Ballard Locks and Gardens. Our plan is to take the light rail from the airport to downtown, find somewhere to store our luggage, most likely a hotel, and then do some exploring in Pioneer Square and then a fresh seafood lunch along the waterfront since all the seafood on the ship is frozen. After lunch most likely take the number 24 bus to pier 91 but if running late then a taxi.

Since retiring in May we are those people who now retired wonder when we had time to work. For the first time we need to synchronize our calendars.

On these boards people always ask the earliest they can check but a search did not find anyone asking the latest they can check in, hence I asked.

  10. Sorry you had a problem and agree Princess should make it right. We disembarked in Copenhagen June 3 and had no issues. We did not use the Princess transfers and had a late disembarkation (I think it was 9:30) but were delayed a few minutes as there was a line for taxis. One of the nice things about a late time was very little luggage in the terminal and easy to find ours.

We used the city bus and was quick and easy, the stop is right across the street from the terminal. The biggest issue on the city bus was one of the next stops was a ferry terminal and lots of people there getting one with luggage (as we did) and the area for luggage on the bus filled quickly. On embarkation day, traffic was slow and a long line but the bus went around some of the traffic. But no traffic on disembarkation day.

  11. Booked on the Grand Princess from Seattle, leaves at 4 PM. Unlike most people, we want to board late as we want to explore Seattle a little first. How late can we board, if we are at the terminal by 3PM is that enough time? I know they serve lunch in the MDR and buffet but we were thinking a nice seafood lunch in Seattle prior to boarding.
