  1. Wow, really? I haven't sailed either of the new big ships, but when I sailed Magic some years ago they definitely had buffet for dinner. Too bad that changed. A ship that is kid-heavy needs a buffet for dinner!

They don't have it on any of their ships now. I got off the Magic two days ago and was desperately in need of a dinner buffet!

  2. We live in Florida now so will become last minute bookers... Am tempted by the Getaway in Oct/Nov! Amazing price. You just have to be flexible if you want to take advantage of the last minute fares.

  3. Love DCL - we've done three cruises and had an incredible time on each one. But.....I'm also ready to try another cruise line for a different experience and lower prices. I'm seriously considering Princess for our next cruise.

This sums up our thoughts right now. My husband and I love Disney, and DCL, but I'm ready to see some new places and try some new ships. In January we are sailing Royal and hopefully NCL, and we also plan to try Carnival. Disney IS probably worth the money if you have kids, however.

  4. My husband and I love DCL. We have done all four ships. The Dream is our least favorite, especially the 3 day. It is rushed and every passenger is trying to do everything at once.

He boarded Enchantment today and so far has been really impressed. He is in love with the buffet and things the ship is beautiful and well maintained. I would stick with Royal.

  5. The reports of shabby cabins on recent Magic sailings have me a little worried. We were told that the guest cabins were to be completely torn apart and re-done. From the reports' date=' it appears that little more was done than to replace the beds. This is frightening because thing were in need of some serious work in August 2013.

A decision to not install the magic portholes is one thing. To not replace worn carpet, refinish scuffed wood, etc. is a different matter all together.[/quote']

We were on the Magic a couple of weeks ago. The staterooms have new beds, and new carpets. Concierge rooms have new couches, chairs, tables etc too. Not sure about the regular room couches. Instead of the steamer trunk there is a different set of drawers. Much more useful!

They really needed to repaint some of the staterooms on the Magic but we had a large group and none of their stateroom walls had been repainted. :(

  6. It is a really awkward (lousy) itinerary, IMO. It is 10 days that starts on a Monday, therefore you basically need two full weeks off of work. You'll see prices continue to drop as they struggle to fill these itineraries. Unfortunately I think RCI is going to use this to show there isn't interest in going to Bermuda from Florida.

I would book any RCI ship leaving from any Florida port if it did a 6, 7, or 8 day Bermuda itinerary (weekend to weekend) so that it was work friendly in terms of time off.

I would love to see a Bermuda itinerary from Florida. It is a really awkward itinerary, and doesn't spend as much time in Bermuda as most people want (3 days).

  7. Hi all!

We are frequent sailers with DCL, but have never cruised Royal Caribbean. We recently moved to central Florida, so it is easy for us to hop on a cruise when we want now. :) We have some questions about last minute bookings on Royal, as it's a line we want to try.

    - How close to sailing can you book the cruise? What is the cut off point for booking? Disney takes bookings off their website 3 days prior to sail. What does Royal do?

    - As we are flexible with ports/airfare, do prices drop after final payment date? DCL has non-refundable guarantee rates available at around 60 days before sail. Does Royal do something similar or different? If we are flexible with dates/length of cruise/port etc, do the prices keep dropping after final payment date?

    - Are there FL resident rates? How do you find out about these if there are?

    TIA!

  8. Haven't done this for about a year, but IIRC there was no finger and eye scan. Just a normal immigration line where they look at your passport. We were asked where we were staying post-cruise, how long for, and then asked to find our entry stamp in our passport. Everyone is in one line together. Not sure about self disembarkation as we have never done that.
