  1. FYI  All people sent to Lackland for quarantine have now been sent home (or to hospitals in rare cases) and the housing they have been kept in is in process of being cleaned.

Lackland was selected because the BOQ they were using could be isolated from rest of base.  Don't think other bases with large air strips are that lucky.

We were told as of Saturday there were no plans to reopen.  Suspect this may change soon.

  2. Don't know what this 21 march deadline is all about.  Just contacted them (took one minute) and I have till 31 March to cancel or not on my 18 and 25 April cruises out of San Diego to Mexico and then to Vancouver.  Policy quoted does not apply as I booked it before the announcement shown date and is only valid on recently booked cruises

She has no idea where this cruise will go as most ports have been closed but said they are working on that.  Would like to get 125% cruise credit but if nothing offered feel I must cancel on 31.

  3. Have back to back cruises scheduled for mid April and really don't want cruise credit but want a refund or to take cruise as saheduled.  Also I have casino credits on these cruises.  Will they extend these also??

For the time being have not cancelled but if another ship is affected plan on cancelling.

I suspect the current credit only offer will change before by sail date as I really believe it is just a matter of time till ships are laid up like air planes due to health risks.

  4. Believe you are mistaken.  There still is a group in San Antonio and as they just had a case late last week there is some doubt when they will be released next week.  Lackland has lots of extra units though so doubt if they will ever mix.

Hud and the Red Cross have been working on these arrangements for some time.  Neighbors close to base are upset about these people being thrust on them without their permission.  Lets hope there will be no more cases.

  5. At the current time the Red Cross in the US is working with Health and Human Services to support the evacuates from china at the various military bases in the US.  I find it hard to believe that the Japanese Red Cross could not support the feeding on this ship..

HHS has done a wonderful job of preparing all of our POE for this emergency and hopefully they will never have this sort of problem.

Why Japan can not take all of the passengers to one of the US or Japanese bases in Japan and quarantine them there is beyond me.

  6. Told 1000pts qualifies you for drinks next cruise last week. Told that cruise certificates can not be combined for same person. But if two different people can be combined.

Going on cruise next week with wife and plan on using her cruise card for slots (she does not gamble) so she will get future cc which we can combine. Anyone see a down side on this??

  7. Recently took these two ships out of Boston on an almost back to back (came back on Dawn from Bermuda on Fri and left on Massdam for Canada on Saturday).

Liked much on both but saw stark differences in the two cruise lines.

Entertainment - No doubt the RCL does this best. Entertainers on Holland ship it varied from passable to really awful. Ncl had some great shows as well as special entertainers.

Food - Buffet on NCL was held in the Garden room (after several days we called it the Garbage room). It was always massive crowds and impossible to find a table. Holland had a really good hamburger bar and taco bar with crowding never a problem plus good food on buffet.

Holland had a far more refined dining and better food by far including a new England seafood dinner one night and Lobster and lamb chops another with no required add.

Also had room service several times on Holland with no added service charge

Shipmates - RCL was comprised of probably 90% people from Boston who were on the unlimited beverage package. On first day at sea saw two fights and on arrival of ship in Bermuda saw the shipboard security staff forcing a couple off of the ship who were in cabin near me. Holland was comprised of more mature people from all over the US and Canada.

Wait staff for drinks was non existent and waits at bars for a drink often exceeded five minuets. With such overloading of staff quality of drinks was always suspect.

Waiters in dining room handled all drink orders and often got them wrong and had no knowledge of wine.

Had no problem getting drinks on Holland and they were more economically priced with a 15% service charge vs. 18% on RCL

Casino - Always smoke filled on RCL but with much action Holland casino was dead all of the time.

Embarking and exiting ship - because the RCL was almost three time as large spent much time in lines with over two hours being required to get on ship at the beginning and at the end of cruise. If you like lines you will love RCL.

Children program was very good on NCL and was poor on Holland. Used the threat on my child that if they misbehaved I would check him into this program. It worked.

General conclusion. Unless I receive another free promotion coupon from NCL I will probably never cruise them again. Holland offered far more of what I was after (with no upcharge like NCL) and am contemplating other cruises with them.
