We just got off this ship and they moved the "coffee" part of the International cafe to part of the Vines Bar.  The food and snacks are still there.  I don't remember what they are putting there instead.

Man...don't mess with  my snacks and donuts!:classic_laugh:

I appreciate the offer, but I really am all thumbs when it comes to the computer.  Jill's mother is in hospice now and she is on the way home for a brief visit before heading back to CA. I should be able to post shortly.

    Thanks again.

    Jack

OK.  Sorry to hear  about SailorJill's mother.  Our prayers are with your family.

Ok, here's the conspiratorial part - I suspect that HAL waters down their spirits -- or at least their most popular spirits. For example, I can SEE them putting a jigger of Cpt. Morgan rum in the highball glass full of ice but once they add the coke, I can't taste the rum. I SEE them make a Tito's Vodka martini (straight vodka) but it is so incredibly smooth that it's like drinking water (because perhaps it is mostly water?). Plus, I made GREAT use of my drink package - we used 10 drinks of our daily 15 drink limit - you'd think we'd feel something, right? The only time we got a buzz was when we had wine or sake.

    Anyone else ever suspect this?

I would be surprised if they did that.  A sure fire way to lose a revenue stream is caught.

We have yet another ad this morning, promoting Edge.  That's 4 within the past month.  I looked up HAL, Princess, MSC, NCL, Carnival, and even RCCL, and this is simply not the case with any of the competition.  They may promote new ships and features in the pipeline, or new builds as they're delivered from the shipyard, but no fixation beyond that.

I have never seen that before  - interesting.

“It’s been re-routed.”  Probably a celebrity or large corporation”. I’m a travel agent.  Happens more often than you probably think.

Happened to me on a Princess cruise...they rerouted the ship but the new itinerary was not one I wanted. Life happens.

Halifax has 250 public works of art - many of them here at the historic Pier 21. This statue if entitled "The Immigrant" and represents someone leaving their country and coming to Canada. Over a million immigrants came to Canada through Pier 21 - including both sets of my grandparents - one from Scotland and one from Austria. One took the train to BC and one took the train to Alberta.

This display is entitled "The Volunteers" and honors the contribution of Canadian women to the war effort in WWII. The figures are life size and one is an African-Nova Scotian lady serving food at a Serviceman's canteen, one in a young girl collecting scrap metal and one is an elderly lady knitting scarves for the Red Cross. The figures were meant to honor women of all ages and backgrounds.  In response to the question as to who the figures were, the response was, "she's you, she's me, she's your mother, she's your grandmother.  She's all of us."

This statue represents the son of another immigrant to Canada - Samuel Cunard. Samuel's father  left the United States during the American Revolution and settled in Halifax. If you have sailed on a Cunard ship you have benefited from one of the many businesses he started as a Halitonian. In a bit of irony, it is a competing cruise liner in the background.

Wow...that had to be a little emotional for you - seeing where your family first landed in Canada!

Norwegian has fish swimming forward on their carpet.  That way you know if you are headed forward or aft. Plus they have blue on Starboard, and Yellow on Port

I remember that from one of our cruises.  Didn't know they were still doing it.

Just off last month...go for the street tacos at the new Salty Dog grill. The Ernesto Burger with a beer is $8 bucks if I am not mistaken, $5 alone...but it does take about 20 minutes to have it prepared, as another server takes the order and goes to get the meat patty and brings it to the grill for cooking. On our cruise a, 5 day Cabo the grill was always packed.

However,  Ernesto burgers are available in the MDR on a few nights, no upcharge. Since last April the menu has been tweeted on Ruby, I've been on her 3 times, since the inital menu change, Pacific Coastal, Alaska  and once since the refurb, Cabo.

I love the new menu changes. But miss the speads, now they have an olive oil herb dip, you must request butter.

Share is wonderful and well worth 29.

I kinda like the olive oil but I agree about the changes.

We have arrived at dock side and were quite relieved to find the answer as to where we could shop for souvenirs.

We also saw an ambulance waiting for us as we docked.  We later heard that the patient was doing well.

Well, I guess Paul Bunyan could play it.:classic_biggrin:

  10. If everything is equal I’d go with the Royal. I’ve been on both and they are both fine but the Royal is newer. Some may prefer the Golden with the promenade deck. No wrong answer. We do multigenerational cruises and both are excellent. I just really like the newer Royal and Regal so that would be my pick. Enjoy your cruise!

I would go with the Royal as well. It is relatively new and well laid out.

  11. We got a move over request on 12/12 for a cruise on 12/16. We took it and were given a 50% refund and an upgrade from a corner aft balcony to a club mini suite with 2 beverage packages. A good deal for us.

    A great deal!
