  1. We went to Maya Key 4 years ago and loved it...would definitely recommend going there!

fully agree with you. and if you like to snorkel, it is a great place to do that. Just make sure you go thru the underwater path to the rim of the reef, then circle it from the outside.

  2. I agree about renting a car. Easy to get from the airport since most car vendors are in the parking garage attached to the terminal. And as said earlier, the rental locations are about 10 minutes free shuttle to the port.

It is about a 45-60 minute drive between the airport and PC straight down the Beach (Bee) Line.

  3. DW and I are considering Maya Key for our Jan cruise on the Dream. I was curious as to how long the boat trip was to the island, and where do you actually depart from?

    Thanks!

10-15 minutes. You meet the guide off the deck of the ship. They will walk you past some of the shops down towards the beach/ocean. 5 minute walk or so.

  4. I have booked (and paid in full) with an early saver rate... Our rate included a $50 OBC per cabin.

Today's sale offers an OBC of $40 PER DAY, however the rate is higher than what I paid.

Are we eligible for the higher OBC without changing our rate?? ( That's a $240 OBC vs. $50!!)

No, you would have to pay the difference in rates first before you would get the $240 OBC. I looked into this.. It would save me $10 but cost me over $200 to book at the higher rate.

  5. Have been diamond for 3 cruises now and never have seen Diamonds go ahead of platinum.

I am pretty sure on the 14day Pride repo cruise, the Diamonds were called first, then Plats, then FTTF. Though on this cruise, there were over 100 Dias, 600+ Plats, and only 60 FTTF. :)

  6. I will soon be on both sides of the issue. I have purchased FTTF for the past 5 cruises and have enjoyed getting on the ship early and have used the tender boarding twice. I have also gone to the Guest Services desk using the P/D/FTTF area a few times. Will I feel different when I get to Platinum this winter... no. Platinum has a few other perks that don't come with FTTF that interest me. Do I still get to board early? Yes. and in front of the FTTF folks.

But this is my opinion and I am glad Carnival made the ability to get it. It is limited to 60-75 people per cruise which is a very small percentage of the cruise population. And on one recent cruise, there were over 800 Dia/Plat people and only 60 FTTF. So, not too much time savings getting on earlier :)

  7. You can switch to a GTY "once" and when you do, you forfeit your access to ES price drops.

But we have booked ES for the past 5 cruises and haven't had a problem at all. Had to change a cruise once due to personal issues which cost me the $50/person. But that was my choice and I understood that going in.
  8. we have bought it for each cruise since they came out with it a few years ago. We feel that it is worth the extra cost. Others will tell you differently. Get it this one time and if you don't feel it is worth it, don't get it thereafter.

Fortunately we are now within reach of Platinum so don't need to get it anymore since it is now part of the Plat perks :)

    Hope you enjoy it.

  10. Is it everyone in the cabin? Or is it just for the people who are at the VIFP level that gets the benefit? (So if I'm a Gold, and I cruise with a newbie- do they get the perk as well? If so, that surprises me. It isn't listed as a "everyone in the cabin" perk. Not that it matters.)

you are probably correct. I cruise with my wife and we have the same # of days, so we are both them same level :) Sorry for the confusion.
