  1. Too bad we're not on the same cruise, zorro. I'm dressing up as well, for one night, because I have a fancy little black dress I bought years ago for a cruise on RCL, which DOES have "formal night", and after losing 40 pounds over the past year, I can FINALLY wear it again, so I am! We could have hung out together, looking quite fancy!!

  2. Thanks for the scoop. We're on the Dawn the last week of January and haven't picked our excursion yet. Will check out the tour operator you listed. I can just Google him I presume?

  3. Boy, if they want me to buy this package, they shouldn't make it so hard for me to do so!! I've been all over the website, and I can't for the life of me find anything about the Beverage Package! Do I have to wait 'til I board? Is that the deal? I did find, and pay for, my tips ahead of time, and while it's easy to find how to buy dinners in the specialty restaurants, I sure can't find anything about the bev package!

  4. Just book yourself! Use Expedia or whatever site you like. We're also coming in a day ahead of time, into Tampa. We've been to Tampa quite a few times, so we know the area well, and one of our favorite areas is near the Courtney Campbell Causeway that goes over to Clearwater. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express right there. There's a Bahama Mama within walking distance, as we won't have a car it makes sense to stay within walking distance. The price is half of the Garden Inn.

  5. We're afraid we're going to MISS having formal nights! We love them! In fact, one of the reasons we're going on this cruise is because I can fit back into my little black dress I last wore on formal night on a RCCL cruise in 2002!! I told mr.cool IF I ever get back in that dress, you're taking me on a cruise! We were hesitant to book on NCL for this very reason, but we've already done all the ports available on RCCL. Will people look at us funny if we DO show up kinda formal???

  6. I can't wait to do this again! We've been to ONE good one, which was on our first cruise, many years ago. It was a short 3-dayer to the Bahamas on RCCL. The rest were so lame apparently, because I can't even remember if I attended!! One of the people at our table (it wasn't two teams, it was small groups), whipped her husband's belt off him so fast she spun him around and he fell on the floor. We cracked up...we also had somebody run up to the stage holding someone's wet false teeth.

I'm guessing it wouldn't be a good idea to "go commando" that night....

  7. I'm with Sam. It's worth it to us to not have to worry about that bill slid under the door on the last day. HATE THAT! And it's always been around a grand for us on a 7 day cruise, so $686. plus tax or whatever is certainly worth it. Like I said earlier, 5 drinks over the course of a day is nothing. We feel like now we can try some of those "Island Specials" they are always hawking around the pool!

And, Out to Sea, I think your words to sam are a little harsh. A man of his size can certainly handle the number of drinks he lists here. Of course, I'm from Wisconsin, land of professional drinkers. ;)

  8. I hope you have a great time on the Dawn just like we did last January. We still talk about what a fabulous time it was. We did have good weather and enjoyed excursions in all the ports which makes a difference. Good time on the ship, too, even though it was packed.

OP, sorry you had a bad cruise and the weather didn't help.

What shore excursions did you do? I've been looking at some choices, but haven't picked anything yet, although I'm REALLY leaning to contacting Victor Bodden tours for Roatan. And the Tropicale or whatever it is on Costa Maya, although I've been reading more and more good things about a different resort, I can't remember the name of it...something with an M...

  9. Thanks everybody! We're sailing on the Dawn the last week of January, and the post "Unfortunately chose the Dawn" had me worried!! I AM glad to hear about the embark and disembark problems ahead of time, we have a hotel for Saturday night, and are renting a car and driving to friends' in Port Charlotte on sunday, so we'll just take our own sweet time getting to the ship, and relax Sunday morning before getting off. Although it goes faster if you carry your own luggage, right? I'm sure we'll do that. Since I lost 40 pounds, my clothes don't take up NEAR as much room in a suitcase!!! :D

  10. The draw of Cork & Caps is more for wine drinkers, I'd think, since that's even more than cocktails. It's remarkably hard, much harder than I would have thought before sailing, to drink even $49/day in cocktails/wine much less beer. You have to keep in mind that you're paying $49 for embarkation day and port days where you aren't even on the ship all day, which means you likely have to "catch up" for those on sea days.

At $10/drink, that's only 5 drinks. Two glasses of wine with dinner, pre-dinner cocktail, after dinner drink, a couple at the show or nightclub afterwards, piece of cake. :D

  11. Great! Sounds like we should sign up. Do we have to do that ahead of time? Or when we get there? Too bad disembarkment day isn't included, from what I've just been finding out about the huge delays due to people getting on in Cozumel, a few drinks would be welcomed on that day!

  12. Wow. That sucks. I had no idea. We WERE late in getting on our last cruise out of Tampa, but that was due to a delay with the ship getting into port because some guy jumped off the Sky Bridge just as they were going under. I am REALLY glad we're not flying back until Monday. And on embarkation day, I guess we'll take our own sweet time getting to the port! we're going down the day before, so we might as well sleep late AND have lunch before we bother to show up!

  13. We're going January 25. Looking forward to Second City.

Question...did anyone do the beverage package? We're considering it, 'cuz we SURE hate that bar tab slid under our door the last morning!!

Good thing I was concerned about making our flight, and decided to stay until Monday. But luckily we have friends in Port Charlotte we can stay with. We'll just rent a car in Tampa for the day, drive down, and back the next noon for our 2:00 flight back to snowy Wisconsin.

  14. First let me say I am soooooooo loving these boards!

We are doing what sounds like the exact same trip, but the last week of January instead of February! I have decided on the Tropicante when we're in Cosa Maya, and now I'm thinking we should do the bar hop in Cozumel! This will be our third trip to Cozumel, or maybe 4th..., and we've done the catamarran snorkeling trip, and just wandered by ourselves, and of course been to Carlos and Charlie's. This bar hop idea sounds like it would afford us a better look at other parts of the island.

    Thanks everybody!!
