  1. Here's an idea that struck me today for P&O (that is 100% wishful thinking and with some levity).

As they are moving toward 'family-friendly' mega-ships, why not spin off the older smaller ships into an adult only brand. "P&O Classic" if you like.

OK, admittedly you've only got Arcadia and Aurora at the moment - but imagine this back in the days when Oriana and Oceana (even Artemis) were in service. You get the gist.

That way, in theory, everyones happy. Those of us who want a medium sized ship with an older style of cruise will have their own niche, and the ones that want the big informal style cruise will also be catered for.

I will reiterate, its not going to happen, but I can wish can't I? 😂

  2. I know that email promos are automatic but got an email just now stating "We thought you'd love this... Find your drema Norwegian Fjords holiday" is taking the pistacio just a bit.

I've already started looking at other lines now...

You can narrow down the options.

They won't be first or last nights, and will usually be on sea days.

Oh, and Iona only has one per week, two per week on other ships.

I was wondering about a 12-night as well.  And this helps - thanks. 🙂

As for the app - is it on the Apple app store to download? I tried looking the other day but couldn't find it.

  4. P&O have just publised a short video on their socials advertisting "Altitude" - a mini golf and rope climbing course on Arvia's deck 19.

It looks similar to ones alreayd found on MSC, Carnival and RCI ships.

Certianly not one for me. Its got a positive response in the comments section - so I guess I'm the odd one out.

  5. I've got a small matter to speak to them about - it'd take all of 2 mins for someone to do but its a nightmare trying to get through.

Rang this morning at 08:30 - got the queue time of '15 mins'. I waited 1h 45m before giving up.

If I could do what I need to do on the site, I would, and then I wouldn't be blocking the phoneline for someone else.

I'll certaintly look at trying that number mentioned about, thanks for the tip Terri! 🙂

  6. Thanks for the review Cruiserjules!

Having only watched videos of the ship, your review does help fill in some gaps. And, true, I may only be basing my opinion from afar, but I don't think I'll be rushing to go on Iona.

Your description of the atrium being soulless is exactly what impression I got when seeing some of the walk around videos. (That and the celings seem low in a lot of places).

Sure there are nice looking parts - such as the Olive Grove - and in general the cabins, but the majority of what I've seen it just doesn't appeal to me.

And I've glad that you've mentioned the mobile phone usage. This is what I thought would happen when they moved towards the app. People will just be staring at their phones more and more.

BTW, hats off to your husband for the formal night mask. Brilliant!

  7. Yep I do feel better now with that sorted. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! 😄

I didn't get anywhere this morning (1hr wait) so I thought I'd give it a go at 16:00 - still 45mins. Thankfully this other thing is something I can take my time to sort, so I'll try another day.

As wowwz mentioned, its a shame they don't have extended hours. However my caveat to that would be that'd have to be two shifts, rather than making someone work, say 12 hr days. Which of course increases costs, and something that they won't do. So I guess we're stuck with 08:30-18:00.

  8. Well good news, I was able to speak to a very helpful chap yesterday morning. The cabin I chose had gone, but he was able to find one nearby.

I do feel for those staffing the phone lines - after all its not their fault that there is just not enough of them to handle the call volume. And not doubt they are getting some earache because of it.

Its also equally annoying when the automated spiel tells you to go on the website. Sure there are times when things can be done there, but its irritating when you've got a query that can't be solved on the site like mine.

Now, I've had to call back this morinng for a separate issue as requested by the rep yesterday (won't bore y'all with the details) .

I called at 08:30 on the dot... "we're busier than usual, you could be waiting for 45mins" ! Yikes.

Sure its annoying for me.. but please spare a thought for them at the other end of the line if that's the volume they're dealing with first thing in the morning.

Glad to hear that they've got anoher 50 people on board though. Let's hope it helps.

  9. ^Thanks, will do.

Its strange how you can be on the cabin selector page and then it switches to 'saver'.

Certainly interested to see what they say... if I do ever mange to get through. I've even tried  the option to book a new cruise (thinking they'd answer quicker) but alas no.

  10. I've just booked a cruise for next year, and selected the option to choose a cabin. I chose the one I wanted, so far so good... however when the booking confirmation screen appeared it just stated 'cabin: GUAR' . Does that mean its accepted the chosen cabin?

Naturally, I've tried calling to no avail. I've also submitted a contact request on their website, but that must go into the same void as the calls.

(I will add that I feel for the folk who are having to answer the phones at Carnival House ... must be a nightmare!)

Anyway, does anyone know if I've got my chosen cabin? Thanks in advance!
