I've seen this before. People book a cruise on a particular ship on a particular line (not just Princess), and then ask afterward if they did the right thing. Why not ask these questions ahead of time?

Hindsight - 2nd thoughts - I research but still question if I've done the right thing. Beginning of old age most likely 🥺

I would much rather eat in the MDR close to other tables with plated dishes than the buffet with people crowded in and sharing serving utensils   Just my preference and I have had Covid twice on cruises in the last 8 months. Per my doctor I should be swimming in immunity and in fact they will not give me another booster till after my June cruises

We are on this itinerary in August so I am snooping on here checking out the MDR menus. We got covid after a California coast cruise on the Discovery in March. Just curious - how long did your doctor say your immunity would last? Debating getting a booster b4 cruise but wonder if March bout of covid gave us enough immunity.

Just called Princess - must cancel 5 days prior. Wow I'm use to 24 hours on another line that we cruise. Not crazy about this rule. Guess we will keep our nighttime SF shore excursion and bring rain coats and gloves 😒

That doesn't tempt me at all. However, I had the mocha shake at the ice cream counter on Caribbean P last month - delicious! And it was included in Plus. I only got it once but sure was tempted to get it a few more times. 😄

Have you tried a Mud Slide from the bar? My go to milk shake - ummmm

if they would have a nice sundae with some hot fudge, good whipped cream, decent vanilla ice cream and a few nuts it would be 10000x better.

Boy do I ever agree with you. That is what is needed! I always miss the nuts - get them to do ice cream  a sauce and whipped cream in MDR during the last cruise but no nuts ever.......

Sad. I hope they have jazz somewhere on our cruise. A number of years ago Sydney had a few jazz clubs but they are all gone now. Has Jazz died in Australia?

We are on the Discovery at the end of March - it will be our first time on her. After hearing about Take 5 I might try to rearrange our July Majestic in Alaska to the Discovery. I like Jazz that much! Thankful for this board and hearing about it!

That was our favorite music venue (jazz) on the cruise, though Crooner's came in a close second. We are going to miss it on our March 2023 28 Day Round Australia cruise on the Majestic Princess. Even though it is a sister ship to the Discovery Princess and very similar, it looks like they have made the Take Five into a sports bar on the Majestic Princess. Though while watch a YouTube video of the ship, there does seem to be a piano in that room. Maybe they'll have some live music in there on some evenings.

We have done 3 cruises on the Majestic in the past year and unfortunately they don't use the area that take 5 is in for music - we had a meeting in there and otherwise I don't know what they do with it.

    Continuing Day 2:
At 11 we went to the enrichment presentation Knights of Rock by Leo Rossi. He's a fantastic speaker. It was a really great presentation on being a roadie and stage hand for the rock bands of the seventies and particularly for Fleetwood Mac.
He also gave a very moving tribute to his son that didn't leave a dry eye in the house.
We plan to attend all of his presentations.

After the presentation we headed to the MDR for lunch. The menu looked really good. The Thai hot and sour soup was particularly delicious. We also had the tomato mozzarella salad, the soy-glazed prawns,  the carbonara rigatoni which was excellent, and the mixed grill plate. Hubs missed the fact there was a veal kidney on there and the look on his face when he ate it was priceless. Dessert was an unremarkable apple turnover which was dry, stale and mostly tasteless.  Service was very slow and lunch took about 90 minutes.  It was super busy, so not surprising.

Tonight was Officers Gala night, so we got gussied up and headed down to Good Spirits and the Piazza to listen to music and watch the Officer introduction by our CD Armando.

Headed to dinner in MDR and ended up at a new table, still nice location with much better serving team.  They were actively working together to take care of their section.  I forgot to take a picture of the menu thanks to those pre-dinner drinks.  But we ordered the walnut-crusted goat cheese salad, the mango mimosa soup which was absolutely fantastic, the bacon potato soup, and we both had the beef tenderloin medium rare.  The meat was cooked perfectly and was tender and delicious.

We skipped dessert to head to the Vista Lounge to see the comedian Miguel Washington.  He was hilarious.. my 24K Margaritas told me so.

Headed over to Take 5 to listen to the jazz ensemble for a bit, then called it a night as my drink package had gotten quite a workout.

The same exact thing we heard when we were on a couple weeks ago. My husband said it sounded like someone knocking. I thought it sounded like creaking when your house is settling. I asked my sister who was on another floor and she heard it too. It was constant and seemed to be with the swaying or the movement of the ship. Luckily I brought my earplugs. I think it had to do with being a new ship. Maybe it's just settling in.

What deck was this on? and location mid, aft ??

  10. @dhanakorn  so glad that you found writing out your experience interesting - good job and great descriptions. Totally agree with you about the buffet having less variety. There use to be tons of food and fancy fruit carvings along with tons of people. I think this is one of the places they have had to cut back to not waste lots of food. I miss the crab shack that doubles as part of the buffet on some of the princess ships. Love crab legs. Really appreciate your tip about the international café and their pastries - good pastries are absolute heaven but not so good ones are an awful waste of calories that are easily spent else where on those MDR deserts or on, one of my favorites, an Alaskan Mud Slide (a cocktail milk shake). Wishing you many more great cruises!

  11. @dhanakorn Please don't tell them to lower the quality of food in the main dining room!!! That's why the Majestic is my favorite - great food in the MDR. I have never had decent seafood on other ships - it's hard to cook fish for a big crowd but they can pull it off and since fish is my preference I have found my home away from home. We are on March 5 can't wait. Thanks for everyone's posts

Yes there are good views from the Hollywood Observatory.  When we were in Glacier Bay in August folks grabbed chairs by the windows quite early but if you're passing through there are good views.  That is also where the National Park Service Rangers set up their tables with items for sale.

That area is not very big, I can imagine that it is packed in Glacier Bay. We were in an Aft Penthouse in July with sunshine - it was amazing! The only problem was they didn't get it carried over the TV until after noon when it was mostly over.

We just sailed in an aft Penthouse on the Enchanted (B735). As mentioned above, there are two categories of Penthouse Suites on the Royal Class ships. S3 are the aft suites and S4 are the port and starboard suites on Riviera Deck. The aft suites are much larger, both the interior and the balconies. The only partially covered balconies (out to around 7') are on Baja and Dolphin decks, which are also the deepest and largest balconies. We found that there was plenty of room on the side (by the bedroom sliding glass door) to put one of the chairs on the side. The forward Premium Suites (S5) have more interior space than the Riviera suites and they both have the same narrow balconies (maybe 15' x 4'). The advantage of the Riviera Suites is their proximity to the Concierge Lounge and that they are a little more toward the center of the ship. I took a profile picture of the Regal Princess aft a couple of weeks back while we were side-by-side in St. Kitts. I'm also attaching an image showing the back of the Majestic Princess.

We sailed in R730 which is an aft penthouse suite with the wraparound balcony. It does have a larger balcony than some of the aft suites on other decks. It was definitely wider than other decks. We loved it and would sail in it again. It was also nice as it was down the hall from the concierge lounge.

That's wonderful news as we are in R730 on the March 5 Majestic! Thanks!

  15. We were on the first cruise out of Seattle to Alaska on the Majestic - we were in Penthouse suite A735. This was different from the other penthouse suites we have been in.  It was made for the Asian market. The sitting area seems smaller but is big enough. The biggest thing is there are two sliding glass doors. One on the side off the bedroom and one off the sitting area. The deck wraps around and is really nice. It is fairly narrow compared to say the aft Penthouses on the Ruby. There are 3 decks that have slightly larger decks - One is the 14th and now I have forgotten the other two. Maybe someone can chime in here that has that info.

I think the Majestic is using Dolphin aft for quarantine - someone please correct me if I am wrong as that info needs to be correct. Anyway would not book Dolphin aft right now if I could help it.

Awwww you warm the cockles of me heart. I can’t say what’s right for you.

I wish now I had snapped a snappy of the most travelled passenger the other day and the lovely woman who came to the disco tonight with her walker. They were most likely in their 90’s or looking at the back side of the 80’s at least. Such tender care was demonstrated towards them.

Princess is doing it right however everyone must talk to their doctors, do research and decide for themselves what is best for them.

And thanks for calling me brave. I’ve always wanted to be brave. I keep trying to be brave. I think I’m winning that battle.

I think all of us who love cruising are very interested in what is happening on the ships - the experience has the possibility of being so different. It really does seem like Princess has handled things so much better than Royal - the stories coming from those cruises have us all wanting to get educated about who we are sailing with. I  know I have not been on here for months but I am certainly hanging out here now.  And you, HaveDog, are curious too and have the same interest, not only that, you are taking the time to let us know what's happening. You have been a great reporter and are really appreciated! God, would I love a Princess Irish Coffee with whipped cream right now!☺️

Hi! @BlueFish2000 Even on the inaugural we took together this past July we had a couple of cases.

I think it’s almost impossible to not not have any Covid on board.

@RogueRamblers is correct that our CD has been put into isolation. I can’t confirm if that’s because of a positive test or as a close contact. @RogueRamblersif there is any way for you to get some first hand text content from those who are currently quarantined onboard I’m sure there are many who would be most appreciative.

    @BlueFish2000why don’t you join @CruiseRaiderand I on the Jan 31 Ruby sailing

Would love to sail with you again, can't then but maybe later this year.  Do you have a list of your upcoming somewhere? Hope you hubby is feeling better.

We had dinner with a couple last night whose daughter came down with Covid 2 days into the cruise. She has been quarantined, apart from her husband, on the Aloha deck. This couple also reported that a staff director was quarantined with Covid. With this many passengers and crew members, it might be almost impossible to not have a single case.

Agree, Princess does seem to be handling it so much better than some of the others. If anyone knows what deck or decks they are using for quarantine would appreciate the info as we will be on the ship in a couple of months and would like to make sure we are on another floor 😏 Hopefully the whole problem will be over by then.
