We book directly with the cruise line and do NOT use a travel agent. If you use a travel agent for your booking, you'll have to go through them to apply the gift cards. That said, just today, for the first time I bought 3 AARP $100 Carnival Gift Cards for a cruise in December. I have scoured CC reading about the Gift Cards, restrictions, problems, etc. The Carnival Cards seem to be the easiest to use, the RCCL not so much. Anyway, I bought 3 to give it a try. Called the CCL number given 800-764-7419, got through within minutes. Selected existing reservation, explained that I wanted to make a payment with AARP Gift Cards. No Problem. The agent took the card numbers and the pin numbers and applied them instantly. They did have to be applied one card at a time, but it was very quick and painless, no issue whatsoever. Will definitely do it again to pay off the balance.

Does this only apply for paying for the cruise?  Can the gift cards be added to your sign and sail once on board?

  2. I agree with the other posters.  The kids club only has dinner a couple nights during the cruise (at least that's the way it's been for us).  Plus, the options are limited to what they present in the reserved area (though the options are kid friendly).

    Enjoy your cruise!!!

Thank you for the responses.  I looked it up and we are in port with 2 other large ships (they both get in at 8am and one leaves same time as us while the other leaves just 1 hour before us so that doesn't help our situation at all). Sounds like we should just head to Palm Beach and hope to find a spot to sit on the sand- I don't care about getting a lounger for such a short period of time.

We're in the same boat.  Have two ships porting earlier than us when we go in June.  We're just gonna back our sense of humor and hope for the best.

  4. Awesome story!  Glad you and your wife will be enjoying your honeymoon cruise!

If you want to meet up with others on board, I'd suggest joining your roll call here on cruisecritic.  You can also search social media sites where people start groups for their specific cruises.  Best of luck!

  5. Radiance is my least favorite ship out of Long Beach (though we obviously haven't been on Firenze).  It's not that it's bad, it's just not my fav.  I just feel there are less options overall on that ship.

I will say that tendering to Catalina took a long time as it seemed everyone was getting off the ship.  The hallways were lined with people.

We sail Firenze in October.  We're looking forward to checking out a new and different kind of Carnival ship.

Not sure any of that helps.

Me too! We were very lucky there were so many still around and so active.

I don't understand...why did La Paz give you PTSD? I'm confused.

It was such a let down and I still don't understand why they said the port was shut down. It was perfectly fine out that day. I'm still left wondering if it was for real or it was this vendor 🤷‍♀️ But then again, people on my roll call said Carnival cancelled theirs as well. So idk.

Yea the weather definitely wasn't what I was use to when cruising for sure.

    Why? I'm confused?

I hope you are having a great time and good weather!!

We booked a whale shark excursion in La Paz in January.  Long story short, the tour left hours later than planned. The water was extremely rough.  Only four people out of 20 went in the water (and immediately came out).  Even the captain and first mate put on their life jackets.  The tiny boat was slamming against the waves. Time was ticking away and we were nervous about missing the ship.  The boat stalled twice on the way in.  They dropped us on a beach and said that transportation would be waiting for us. (It wasn't.)  We luckily hailed a taxi and made it back to the ship with three minutes to spare.

    Talk about stress!

Just checked our May Celebration booking, It's $75/day for up to 4 devices, compared to $21.25/device for the Premium individual device plan.

My home bill is less than that a month, lol.

I think we'll stick to one device at a time.  Don't want the entire family on their computers in our little cabin during our vacation.  But I totally understand that this is a need for some and that it could work out for them.

Has anyone hit the 1500 points in the casino and already purchased that drink package and asked the host for something else? I always buy the drink package and always hit 1500, but never thought to ask the host about it before. Any personal experiences or advice welcome. (Going on the Sunshine next month)

Yes.  We've asked and have received massages at the spa and specialty dining.

Just read this. Be careful as what you typed is incorrect. I'll chalk it up to the 'slip of a keyboard'! Legend will be sailing out of Dover; England's CARNIVAL homeport. Other lines like Princess sail from Southampton. Enjoy. We really enjoyed it last year.

Edit: Sorry. I see other folks already corrected you. We're all just trying to help. THAT would have sucked. 😁

    Appreciate the help!  🙂

I can see why some people might risk a day-of flight to a U.S. embarkation port, but IMO it is absolutely INSANE to do that for a European cruise.  My personal experience has been that a significant number of my transcontinental flights have had some sort of significant delay.  I would never fly the same day as my cruise to save $150 on a hotel room - even if I did have trip insurance.

We're going out on the Legend from Southampton this summer.  We are flying straight from Phoenix two days before (technically, we get at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and our cruise leaves on Friday).  My sister wanted to see London and I made sure to tack on a day and a half before the cruise, just in case something happens.
