  1. Thanks, this site has been fun. Breath of no smoking fun. Our first cruise was in Christmas/New Years 78'79'. It was the old HAL Veendam and it was wonderful. Went to St. Croix, St. Maartin, Aruba, Martinique, St. Thomas, must have been other ports because it was 14 days, but I am getting old. However, we continue to enjoy cruising and are scheduled on 10 day this fall.

  2. Thank you for this information. I have oxygen concentrator and scooter. Need room, so may have to also ask for some furniture be moved. Glad bed is low, since on last http://www.cruisecritic.com it was to high. Was it king bed or queen? Queen split is small, king split is of course larger. Don't like sound of shower toilet combination and don't need bath tub. Hoping for response, thank you again.

  3. Has anyone out there stayed in the HC room? It says it is SS but seems much smaller than other SS cabins. The graphic also shows bathtub not roll in shower. One description says king bed, another says queen. I would appreciate any feedback.

  4. I think there are some other perspectives to this issue that are being missed. People have other problems that are effected by second hand smoke. Asthma is just one, copd and others who physically can not move around the ship as easily, they would appreciate some conversation with neighbors about when it is safe for them to enjoy the balcony. I am sure I would be willing to do this so that we can all enjoy. What I worry about most are ashes and sparks. Fire is one of the biggest issues on cruise ships. I have seen people just throw lit cigarettes off the balcony, can you imagine if you are using oxygen and it lands in the face. I am hoping HAL changes it's policy.

  5. I am a oxygen user and one of the few activities I can enjoy is sitting on the balcony and reading or meals. I have observed ashes flying off the balconies and wonder about the danger of fire by careless smokers. Even though smoke is annoying, it is definitely not healthy for anyone. This is fact. I believe that HAL has the responsibility to make cruising as safe and healthy as they possibly can. Please reconsider your policy re smoking on the ship balconies.

  6. Agree that Princess is not very friendly when it comes to those of us with physical challenges. My daughter and I sailed on the Ruby last November,(usually sail HAL) could not believe that I had to drive my scooter through the smoking area to get to the handicap elevator, this with my oxygen cannula and poc on my cart.

  7. I wonder if they ever change the room filters, or disinfect them. I think taking your own pillow, if you can, is a good idea. I am an oxygen user and always concerned with infection. I use to fly a great deal before I retired and always seems to get URI and LRI. Recently on the Eurodam and came home healthy! I would hate to give up cruising.

  8. This was our 6th cruise on HAL and we have always had great beds. However, our last cruise on the Eurodam, we were in a handicap room. The beds were so hard and high, it was painful to get into and painful to sleep on. This was so disappointing. Since I never had this problem before, when we returned home, I phoned the Special Nees Dept. of HAL and asked how high off the floor their beds were and was told all beds are just under 26" off the floor. Our bed in 6002 was higher. The mattress was like a rock. The Eurodam is a beautiful ship, and every other part of the cruise was wonderful.

  9. We just returned from cruising on the Eurodam for Christmas. We had a wonderful cruise. The Ship is beautiful and was easy for me to get around in my scooter. The food for the most part was excellent, including the lobster tails on Christmas eve. We had a 5:30 seating and never had lines or problems with our table. Our room was spotless and well cared for, but I do agree that the stewards were over worked. Also, the waiters in the dining room were stretched to the max, which is a shame, since we really enjoyed fun conversations with them in the past. We ate in the Tam x2 and the PG once. We loved the Tam. I agree re cabanas. HAL has always been our favorite, but times are a changing folks.

  10. We just returned from Eurodam for Christmas week. What a beautiful ship, the decorations for the holidays were just magnificient. The ship looked great, all systems seem to be working good and of course the food was the best. The staff, though stretched, was friendly and welcoming. A great cruise. Thank you HAL

  11. I read somewhere on cruise critic that it was a Wetdock, because it is only for a few days. Don't know what they do on wetdock. I think it is for 3 days or so, just before the 12/18 sailing. We are on the 12/22 sailing for 7 days over the holidays.
