  1. We are on the same 8/21 sailing and in another thread someone just got off the allure and was told the new menus would be coming out in three weeks. Kinda hoping that won't be our week as I know new things can take a while to get sorted out and being its our 1st ever RC cruise was hoping for smooth great service. I am sure it still will be, just I am sure it is difficult for the crew to learn a whole new menu.

  2. Thank you Matt for the post. I am going to sit back and just not worry. This might be the dawn of a new era for me if I am able to do it and still have everything work out! That I guess would be the price of STAR class!!

We are low maintenance so once on board and everything is booked we are self sufficient. I look forward to the big balcony and spending time with my hubby and daughter. I think I am just used to disneys site and communication so start to panic being RC is new for us.

I am almost 9000% sure I will be joining your face plant flow rider club, but I am gonna try it!

I told our TA to,reach out to RC to try to book cabana b2 and dinner at the tepenaki place since my daughter loves the show these types of restaurants put on. Also might ask about booking the cupcake class as that is a must for my daughter and I.

We are also thinking chops, 150 CP and maybe the Italian place along with costal kitchen. Are we missuing anything we have to try? Was thinking Mexican day we board for lunch...

We like to leave surprises for our daughter while out at dinner. Or have a stuffed pokemon knock on the door. Do you think, this is something the room steward would do 1x or twice?

Work is crazy busy, looking forward to vacation! Thanks! Teresa

  3. We booked all of our shows and meals in advance even though the Genie is supposed to do it for us. I'd rather get the times and venues that we want, without any pressure. The charges will come back in the form of an OBC, to which I will use for private flowrider rental. Everyone is different though, it's just the way we chose to do it.

I don't understand, like you, why some get the survey and others don't. It shouldn't be in that many junk email folders.

Flow rider! Fun! We have a pretty large OBC now, so don't want to add to that. We will just play it by ear, which might be good for me to learn to do. :) I will let you know in 1 more week if I am still alive. LOL

We are looking forward to the room, the deck looks amazing, and no email or work, so it will be a great time.

Trust me, working at an IT company I have looked in every folder possible. I thought maybe it went to my TA instead of me, but she does not have it either. Oh well, I am not going to stress. I am not going to stress. I am not going to stress. LOL But really, I do think how would be telling them who I want to have dinner with impact my trip? :)

  4. Keith, we will have to plan to meet to say hi!

At least you got the original questionnaire. My issue is that some get it and some don't.

I have never cruised RC, always disney, so have high level of expectations (right or wrong) given service on disney we are used to (in a normal room) and what we paid/and are promised with STAR service. So far, not impressed.

I too, am a planner. I am told to wait to book with my genie. I feel nervous about that, but will wait and see. but oh boy, if things are booked......yikes.

  5. It came by email. When you click on the link it goes to Survey Monkey. I think the pre-cruise survey is automatically generated by a set time of days prior to the sailing. It is my understanding that the genie reaches out to you 2 weeks prior to your sailing.

Edit: there are people on shore doing this part of the survey, if not computer generated. The information extrapolated from this gets passed onto the Genie by email.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

THANK YOU! So did you get yours 2 weeks out? I thought I saw you are sailing the week after me? But I could be wrong :)

  6. we sail on 8/21 on the allure (1720) and still have nothing. No email or survey. Our TA keeps telling us "It will come today!" and it doesn't.

Does it come to your email or do you have to log onto your RC account and see it in there somewhere?

I think part of the issue/delay is that they are on board helping current guests. I almost feel like they need 1 person for all Suite guests on land that gets some of this taken care of so people know what to expect and when.

  7. HI, question for anyone recently on the allure (we sail 8/21) My daughter loves HOME, and the RC homepage shows "Meet the Boov) but all reviews I have read call out only meeting characters from Shrek, Madagascar etc.

Anyone seen any Boov roaming around? :) THANKS!

  8. We sail 8/21 in 1720 (allure). We have not heard from our genie yet, which I read is ok, we might not until 2 weeks out. However, I am getting worried about booking shows and restaurants. My TA says just book online, but when I do, it shows charging me. I don't want an OB credit back, I would want my card reversed, which I hear is hard/difficult for them to do. Hence I am waiting. Should I be worried?

Also, does anyone know if the cupcake class is free for Star guests?

    What about the character breakfast?

any another random question: One thing we love about having the same wait staff at dinner is they get to know you (drinks, etc) and they are just so darn great! If we do specialty dinning will the service be as good?

If we want to have dessert in our room each night, can we tell our genie that and he/she arranges it? Or do we need to call each night to set it up?

    Thanks in advance!

  9. Ya lost me at "8 years old". It is not a matter of weather a kid knows not to bang on plates and what fork to use. It just changes the atmosphere of the whole event, and that is not fair to those who paid good money expecting a special evening of food, wine, and adult conversation. If you are constantly conscious of a youngster hearing the conversation, it will impact what you say. Even with a great kid, the attention focuses more on their presence than it should. It can radically changes the table dynamic.

I enjoy sitting at a regular MDR table with a well behaved kid, but the Chef's table is just a venue where it is not really appropriate, in my view, no matter how well behaved the child is. Still a child. To me its more a problem with the parents that put their kids in that position not understanding and respecting how a child's presence can adversely affect other's experience at such an event.

Again this could be the difference in who we associate with. In and under no circumstances do I take my child somewhere that I feel conversation could get inappropriate for her. This is a fine dining experience, I would assume everyone would be well behaved. Again, this is our 1st cruise on RCC, so if people use the wine tasting as a chance to get "toasted" then I might have wrong expectations. At no point would I think a chef dinner would the conversation turn inappropriate or have any effect at all on others. But again, we have not sailed RCC so not sure the type of cruisers on the ship and perhaps, free flowing wine brings out the best of them at the end of the evening tops will be off and the pole will come out.

I am leaving this topic before I offend anyone. I have very different ideas of "class" then others perhaps because again, several people I have run into I would never want to sit next to at any table. ANd guess what, they weren't kids

BUT to answer the OPs question. Yes, kids can attend. Our genie confirmed this. They will even make a special menu for your child (although mine does not need it) So use your discretion if you want to bring your child but yes, they are allowed.

  10. That's all well and good but I would add that no matter how well behaved your child is, I still don't want to have dinner with kids or have to converse with them, especially at a high priced event that is designed to feel sophisticated and elegant, and more special than most other dining venues. It's hard enough to find adult only spaces on cruise ship, they often cost extra and/or are hard to secure. Most everything seems to cater to kids on these ships, so can't we adults just have this one thing to ourselves???

Then don't engage in conversation. I often don't engage with people I find to be rude, self rictuses or feel themselves better then others. Or even simply with people I don't have anything in common with.

And there are several places you can go without kids no? Isn't there some solarium (again, this is our 1st RCC cruise) or bar kids can't go to? Isn't the casino adults only? Or a pool deck?

If RCC said no kids (like DCL Palo) I wouldn't bring her. But they don't, so I will. And I am not sure why if they feel it is ok you feel it isn't? Why is brining a child all of a sudden "not sophisticated" I guarantee there will be people sitting next to you FAR less sophisticated then my child.

It just bothers me when people make comments like this. If you don't want to be around kids, go to an adults only resort, but don't make comments that people shouldn't bring kids to venues that say they can attend. I would like cruises to not allow rude, pushy, tacky and uneducated people but I don't post comments that cruises should enforce that.

  11. So as I type this I am getting ready for the barrage of negative comments back.

We are going on our 1st RCC in Aug and we booked this. We are bringing our 8 year old (whom our Genie has already asked what menu items and milk/juice flight she might like for her dinner) My daughter is 8 and has better table manners then some adults.

If she is not sitting between my husband and I, she will turn to introduce herself to the stranger next to her with a hand shake, will ask questions like "where are you traveling from?" "are you enjoying your vacation?" I have often hear her talking about football and her predictions for the upcoming super bowl, or about her favorite baseball player Honas Wagner from 1920. Or talking about the charity she owns and helps manage.

She does this all while having her napkin on her lap, waiting for others to get their food before eating, and knowing what fork to use for salad.

We have done dinners like this in Seattle where we live (only about 3x the price) and she even asks questions that has everyone thanking her for asking (like the chefs background, his or her favorite thing to cook and eat etc) In fact, last weekend we were at a charity event for $500 a plate. She was there, working the crowd and got her photo taken by/with some pretty well known people. She is a kid who has managed to "make friends" with some of the worlds greatest actors and athletes all because she is great with people, respectful, funny and knows how to behave in what we call "fancy engagements"

Now, let me say this: If my child was EVER to act up in a restaurant, we would leave. Actually, it would not even get to that point. We all know our kids. We know the onset of what in a few more moments will be a louder then appropriate voice or even temper tantrum. I would have my kid out of any public establish LONG before it got to that point. this includes any store or restaurant. I go on vacation to RELAX, and not hear screaming kids. I know others are the same. However, I go to spend time with my child, not away from her. So this means she comes with us. This also means she has been exposed to A LOT, and knows how to behave. She knows when to tell a great butt joke, and when to talk about other things.

And no, my child is not an angel. Yes she gets in trouble. However, not knowing how to behave in public is not something we have ever had to worry about. Ever.

So yes, she will be coming with us.

  12. one quick thing to note about early boarding is that is for young kids usually 1 and under, maybe 2 and under but for sure not 3. At 3 they can walk down themselves with their own suitcase and are not considered little.

I suggest bringing an empty sippy cup (the toss and go) and filling with water to suck on while taking off and landing. Also, gummy snacks work great.

We never have a car seat on the plane, nor do we lug it around once we land. We make arrangements with car service/hotel service to pick us up with a seat. (our daughter is 8 now, but took her 1st flight at 4 months and has racked up more miles then most adults!) The way home the shuttle bus is large and no car seat is needed.

We used to wrap small toys/trinkets for the plane ride. if she started to get restless, we took one out. Just the opening of it took time, and then she was enamored with something she had not seen at home before. Could be a new coloring books, stickers, small candy, magic pen set, littlest pet shop or blind bag small toy. Worked like a charm and often handed out extra to kids not handling the flight as well as my daughter. :) She also knows when we are buckled we SIT. We do not walk around on the plane. I travel for work, so never wanted my kid to be "one of those" so used to over pack just in case. At about age 4, she packed her own bag and decided what she needed to keep herself entertained (even long flights overseas)

Good luck, I am sure it will go great!!
