We are sailing on January 14th and 21st and the 14th junior suite guarantees just were listed for $999 yesterday! That is less than I paid for our balcony so I jumped on it and got a "complimentary" upgrade! First time in a suite and we will be Diamond after this B2B now! YEAH!

LOVE Carambola! Recommend it to everyone who goes to St. Kitts! We will be headed back there in January!
-
Thanks so much for the info about Emerald Beach. I wonder if Royal will continue to port there at Crown Bay or if they will go back to Charlotte Amalie. I'd love to go somewhere close because I've heard taxis are expensive for a longer ride.

Anyone have pictures or an experience in 9404 on Freedom? We have that booked for January 2019 B2B. Never been in an aft before!
-
I will be interested to hear what you do in St. Thomas. We are headed there in January and haven't quite decided what to do yet. You are on our favorite ship! Even though we've been on her a number of times, I still love looking at all of your photos! Feels like home!! <3 Enjoy!

I think Jewel is different than Adventure, and there's only one muster on Jewel.
(y) Thanks Bob!

we are sailing on jewel on December 31. It departs San Juan at 8:00 pm. What time will muster drill be? Trying to plan dinner times. Thanks.
We have sailed out of San Juan 4 times at 8:30 and every time muster has been between 5:30 and 5:45. All of these cruises were on Adventure but I imagine it will be the same on Jewel. They do have a 2nd muster though around 8 in case people aren't on board for the first one.

This was a wonderful review and included some amazing pictures!! What happened to Grenada? We are headed there in January and was looking forward to what you did there. Thanks again! Haven't been on Jewel yet and super excited now!

I recommend grabbing a cab anyway. The free shuttle will not leave the airport until it is full. That means you could you be waiting a while if you're not one of the last people to get on it. Cabs are plentiful at the airport and will cost you only about $25 to the pier. Another thing to consider, when you arrive at the pier on the shuttle, you are arriving with a lot of other people at the same time. That could add time to how long it takes to board the ship. If you take a taxi to the pier, you might have a shorter wait to get on the ship.
That is a good point about waiting for it to fill up. We will be getting there at 2:05 in the afternoon and will be ready to get the to ship so we will definitely just hop in a cab! I agree also about them needing the revenue! (y)
Thanks everyone!

I have seen a few recent posts about Royal Caribbean providing free transports from the airport to the terminal. Does anyone know how long this is going to last and if this indeed is happening? We cruise mid January and was wondering if it would still be provided then. If not, we have no problem grabbing a cab! :) Thanks!

I have previous reservation for Embassy Suites...but nervous about it.
May do an airbnb at the last minute if needed
Can't wait, worse case sleep on floor at friends hotel at Tres Palms
Our reservation was cancelled for January 13th at Embassy Suites and they said they wouldn't be open until at least March. :(

Someone on my roll call for January 14th just had their reservation cancelled for Comfort Inn for the night before cruise. FYI.
-
FYI: I called Embassy Suites San Juan to confirm our booking for January 13th and they said we should have gotten a cancellation email and that they wouldn't be housing people (other than government) until at least March. We never got the cancellation email so I just cancelled the booking myself.

Thinking about booking 1154 for an upcoming cruise! Anyone have any interior pictures or any other comments about it? Do you feel like you are on display from the track above since there is no cover? Any help is appreciated!!

Now I like Martinique even more!
Yesterday was St. Lucia. We planned a ship day and it was a good thing because I came down with a cold. We spent most of the day out on our balcony and I napped out there for a good part of the day.
Today is Barbados and we booked a catamaran trip with Silver Moon.
Awww, I'm sorry you are sick. Being sick on vacation is the worst!! :( Feel better for Barbados! It's one of our favorites!

Thanks for the live review! You are doing a great job! We sail from San Juan in January on Jewel so it's interesting to hear the status of PR. Enjoy your cruise!

Leaving on Jewel, February 11 to Southern Caribbean. Since departure time is 8:30, when is the assembly drill usually? Trying to figure out dinner plans.
Thank you!
Last year on Adventure out of San Juan, muster was at 5:45. They pushed back dinner (both time slots) 30 mins on the first night. Hopefully this helps you!

We just booked the jewel for 1/14. So excited!! Does anyone know if the ship will be docked at the pier near the Sheraton at old San Juan or at some other pier? I know there is another pier somewhere but I have never been to that one.
Also we like to take cabs to nice beaches when we are on the islands. Does anyone have any suggestions as to nice beaches?
Hi there! If you haven't already, come on over and join the roll call for this cruise! https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2343734 We are also on this cruise and the one afterwards. We love traveling to beaches by taxi as well. Here is what we will be doing for the cruise!
St. Thomas - Magen's Bay or Emerald Beach (not sure which one we are going to yet)
St. Kitts - Carambola Beach Club
Antigua - Dickenson Bay
St. Lucia - Rodney Bay is nice but we are doing an excursion through Shore Excursioneer to Pigeon Island Beach for 6 hours
Barbados - Boatyard Beach (BEST ever!)
In reference to the hotel, we are staying at Embassy Suites San Juan the night before. It's a short ride from the airport and it doesn't take long to get to the pier either. It's nice and not a bad price at all.
If you have any questions, let me know!

And them come back and tell me ;) Still hopeful for May on all our stops.
Hoping to do another review like last year! I know I love reading them when I'm looking forward to my cruises! (y)

Ok thanks! Our cruise isn't until January so I guess we will wait and see if we hear anything from RC!
-
Royal has already embarked three cruises in San Juan since the storm, the port is up and running.
Also, welcome to Cruise Critic.
Bob, do you know how the future of Dominica is looking and if ships will be porting there? If not, do you know what it is being replaced with? Thanks for any info you have!

This was a wonderful report! Thanks so much for all of the information. We are headed to San Juan in January on Jewel!

Random question do the elevators still have the days of the week in the floors?

We were sad when they removed this feature on Adventure of the Seas after the partial dry dock. I would be very happy if they had this on Jewel! :D

We just got assigned Junior Suite 1080 for a GTY and was hoping we could us those stairs to go up 1 floor to Windjammer. So the stairs that show on the deck plans aren't usable? :loudcry:
