  1. Mahalo!

I'm still working on my to do list and not looking forward to Monday p.m. flight from LAX to LHR but hope I can get some sleep. I've been looking forward to sailing on a new ship for years and Southampton is on my bucket list.

Will be meeting Mom in Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 8 for two weeks on the Eurodam for a different kind of (B2B) cruise.

  2. Mom and I enjoyed dinner there twice while cruising in June/July. She also had lunch there a couple of times and really enjoyed it (comp at lunch). Selecting all the courses at dinner was too much food for me so the second time I asked for a selection of sushi/sashimi chosen by the chef. Both times I had the chocolate fortune cookie for dessert. I think the menu has pretty detailed descriptions of each choice so you should find items that suit your taste.

I enjoyed Steak 954 at the W Fort Lauderdale on Thanksgiving last year.

  3. Welcome home and thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Very informative reading.

I sailed on the Dawn for my birthday in April. Chose the cruise for the date and New Orleans to Boston itinerary. New carpet in the halls was installed during that time. Biggest plus (vs. HAL) for me was the sitting inside for muster drill and the wine bottle discount with the beverage package.

Started cruising with Mom seven years after Dad died and now I'm hooked so I cruise solo more than I cruise with her. I think she has only cruised solo once since widowed. Since she lives in Hawaii, it is a long flight to get anywhere to go on a cruise.

  4. I always take my kindle just in case but I didn't need it because there was enough turnover on the shared shelf. I visited at least once a day to separate the non-English language books and on the final day they were finally outnumbered by an overflowing English shelf.

  5. Capri is anytime but many reservations have made for very long lines to get a beeper to wait to be seated (the first two nights anyway). We were told thus is unusual. Portofino has early dinner at 5:30 and opens to anytime at 7:45 if the 5:30 diners are done being served.

  6. It is my understanding that each adult may bring ONE bottle at no charge assuming it is to be consumed in the cabin. Any other bottles are subject to the corkage fee no matter where they are consumed. As a sometimes solo cruiser I'd love to bring TWO bottles if I were paying the solo supplement but I haven't seen any that allow two per cabin as the rule.
