I've seen sushi and chips/salsa as suite snacks in reviews.

Obviously not the answer I was hoping for. But I appreciate all the detail! If we decide to have some in our group try for the dinner and some babysit, that will be very helpful in the decision-making process.

I realize it's a difficult seat to snag in general. But before I budget for it just in case and start crossing my fingers, what time do you have to be there? We'll be traveling with a child and Splash Academy is closed from 5:00 to 7:00. Understandable policy overall but I'm concerned that could make the dinner impossible.
Thanks!

This thread doesn't have photos but she includes a good written description and there's a long video.

There can be personality factors, like how much dress code you're comfortable with, whether to do the full traditional cruise dining experience with assigned seats and set times, etc.

I have to slightly hijack and ask: Why exactly is everyone so fond of Alaska?

We have a cruise coming up to PV as well and this restaurant is coming up in recommendations (on foodie sites, not specifically Cruise Critic) over and over : http://elarrayan.com.mx/en/index.php

Our first cruise will be to the Mexican Riviera (someone else's pick) and I have zilch interest in beaches, but I've found plenty of interesting alternative activities for each port. I started by browsing the excursions page from the cruise line's website. There are obviously other things you can do each place as well but it was a nice jump-off. If you and your daughters do love the beach, you can definitely accommodate the whole family instead of skipping beaches completely.

The thing is I doubt anyone is purposely over-withholding a significant amount as a way to generate savings.
No, many people do exactly that. And some react so angrily, I can only guess they think that the practice leads directly to the IRS increasing their own tax rates. Because otherwise it's none of their affair. (You have already clarified you didn't mean it that way but we have some other 'Irresponsible idiots!' posts in this thread.)

Does anyone else use there tax refund as a vaction fund . This has been a good system for us, we have done this since we were married in 76 and most years we did get to do something. Over the years we have moved up in refunds and trips , we spend more than our refund but it is a good start .
Not specifically cruises but as a vacation fund, yes, frequently. It's... oddly controversial but works for us and harms no one.

I grew up in Juneau. There were days that the cruise ship passengers outnumbered the locals.

Someone did have an issue with reduced kids club hours on the NCL Dawn in January. I can't link from my phone but her review is on this forum if you scroll back. Dawn is in the thread title.

Totem Park in Sitka is totally feasible (and fun!) for those ages. And is within easy walking distance from the docks.
I grew up there.

What in the world did I say that you think is rude? I am not the slightest bit offended. (I think it's impossible to become offended at something on a message board, but nothing in this thread even has me upset.) I have no idea what you are talking about. You need to stop assigning your personal feelings to MY posts. I'm simply trying to get this figured out. Sorry if I'm not being helpful. Stop trying to cause problems.
I think 'NCL Junkie' was interpreted as a dig.

Dark and stormy. Rum, ginger, lime.

I was a child in the 70s, no electronics or organized activities, but I was still incredibly bored on family vacations. Personal interests are not hereditary.
Whining is unacceptable, but I wouldn't punish our son simply for being bored. Or take him on the next cruise.
And chores are their own kind of boring.

The excursion I'm most looking forward to on our upcoming MR cruise is a Puerto Vallarta street taco tour. Not offered via the ship, of course.

One useful bit of advice we've picked up here is that the kind of port makes a difference. If you can just walk off the ship, easy. But if you're waiting in line for a tender, like possibly at Cabo for your cruise, people who booked ship excursions get off first on some lines and that can save you as much as an hour. That's worth something.

If someone clicks through to your public profile it's there. Although it's not a hyperlink.

If you like pictures check out our www.flickr.com/photos/magickpyggie/sets and choose the Star set. In a Suite we had the Butler serve dinner on the balcony as we sailed from Stockholm, magical.
I love the photo where you're having nothing for dessert.

When you pre-order an entire regular-sized bottle of something, you get three cans of your choice of juice for mixing. But that's not much.

I don't think I'd consider the bathroom scale a perk!

Definitely updated information on Mazatlan. We're booked for next spring.
First-hand experience on the Cabo semi-sub would be a bonus.
Thanks!
