Celebrity Summit has left Freeport and should be here with plenty of time to spare :)
-
I did speak with my travel agent yesterday and he did say that we can submit our hotel receipts to GS on board or wait until after the cruise and submit them to celebrityonetouch@celebrity.com.
I did not go into it further because I got the impression that this is just evolving and not many facts are really out there yet.
I would not be going out and booking $1,000 a night suites expecting to be reimbursed. He said they can be submitted, that's all. No promises.

Capt. Kate's Instagram post reports the port side Azipod will be replaced.
I was told when I booked this that Capt Kate would be on this cruise but another board said there was just a shift change. Does she say on her Instagram? I am not on it.

Can anyone provide an accurate update on Summit's issue? What exactly is the problem (propulsion, power generation, or something else)? What is the status of the repairs? Are they on schedule to be ready for the next cruise?
It arrived in Freeport, Grand Bahama yesterday at about noon. Everything I have read is that it is a propulsion problem. BUT when she was sailing up to the Bahamas she was going 18.2 and 18.6 knot out of her full 24 knots so I do not know if that is accurate.
I am not sure if I posted it here but I received a text from Celebrity yesterday stating she would not be at the pier until noon on the 18th and boarding would be between 3-7 pm :(
If there is one hiccup we could be out of a cruise altogether :( :(
I'll be tracking her on my iPad while in OSJ so I will keep everyone apprised as to her whereabouts daily once she leaves Freeport.

We will be on our first Celebrity cruise in May and have been following this issue. Based on this, I believe that it will also be our last Celebrity cruise. It may possibly be our last mass market cruise, as we see have seen such a drastic decline in customer service on and off all the ships after almost 30 cruises on seven different lines.
This is the 3rd time on the Summit in 2 years and I am starting to feel the same way. My travel agents have been great but Celebrity handled it poorly.

The Summit arrived in Freeport, Bahamas at about noon. She was moving 18.2 knots to 18.6 knots when I was looking. Her full capacity is 24 knots.
We just received a text telling us the Summit will not be at the pier until noon on the 18th and that boarding is now between 3-7 pm. That is cutting it close. That is tight getting everyone on board and what are all of the passengers that have early arrivals going to do while waiting?
The PR sun can be brutal :(

I am a member of vesseltracker dot com and it says that the Summit is on her way to Freeport in the Bahamas and is due to arrive 4-10-2017 at 2:30 pm. This means it is about a 48 hour run. Obviously I am keeping a eye on when she leaves Freeport. If it is not by the late 15th or early16th we may be out of luck :(

She is the best, a tiny gal. She is a very hands on Capt. when it comes to passengers.

Can anyone that has sailed the Summit recently confirm that there is no smoking allowed at the Sunset Bar. When we were on board in2014 smoking was allowed on the port side of this bar
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi, I just got off the Summit. There is smoking on the port side of the Sunset Bar as well as outside on the port side of deck 4. That is the Casino and Martini Bar Deck.
The only other smoking area is on deck 10, midship port side of the pool. This is a more comfortable area since it has comfy love-seats and chairs.

Maurice is still on the ship. Someone just posted photos on FB with him.
Maurice is alive and well on the Summit. I had him on Dec. 8th and he spent the day touring around Martinique with us. He sleeps at night in the Martini Bar (Deck 4) and whoever gets him first has him for the week.
But remember, he has to be returned to the Martini Bar at bedtime :)
btw, I was told he had a social media page but I cannot find it to post the pics. Does anyone know what it may be?

Thank you for all of your replies. She's said yes to the walker and considering the scooter. She's been in PT now for the last several weeks and seeing some improvement. I think she'll push it as long as she can, I'm just worried we will be two days into our trip and she will regret not having the scooter back up if she opts only for the walker. Time will tell. . . I appreciate the input from everyone:-).
I think it would be wise to consider a scooter for your Mom. Have you considered where your cabin is in relation to the areas where you will be spending time? Knowing the full impact of the pain when walking long distances or standing for any length of time I think she may regret not getting one.
Special needs at Sea has been great for me. It was the one step in all of this that was painless. The pricing plan appears to go by the persons weight. There are 3 different scooters. Since I weigh 135 fro example, they recommend the basic. Then I believe the next scooter is for those that weigh 250 lbs - 500 lbs, and the bariatric scooter is for those over 500 lbs.
The standard scooter with taxes and delivery to your cabin is $205. which I believe is well worth it
Please do not forget to sign your Mother up for Pier Assistance. Do not just tell your travel agent or cruise consultant make a call to the "Access Dept" yourself. That is important since I have arrived at the pier before and my travel consultant had not noted that.
I leave tomorrow and will do a review here on the Disabled Travel page about my first experience with Celebrity and the pros and cons of using a scooter on their ship the Summit.
Good luck to your Mother and please tell her that her comfort is more important than the stigma of being on a scooter :)

Yes, my scooter is coming from Special Needs at Sea. They have been great about it.
Someone mentioned having someone to open the door to the cabin for me. This is my first time on Celebrity. On my Alaskan cruise I took last year (by myself) I had an automatic door that swung open after inserting my card. Hubby and I do not intend to be joined at the hip this cruise so I think I need to call celebrity and check.
I go back to the Pain Mgt Dr on the 14th, 2 days after I return. I called them yesterday and they told me to add Gabapentin to my daily meds of Relafen and Tramadol, 3x a day. Normally I take 2 Gabapentin just at night.
The muscle spasms in my legs are so awful, if this were not my husbands first cruise I would cancel. It took me forever to convince him to go. He was a Submariner in the Navy so he said his traveling days were over, but knock on wood, I hope he enjoys himself.
I am going to look into surgery after the holidays I have the Laser Center reviewing my MRI's now, their Dr is calling me on Dec 15th to chat about it.
Wish me luck, 2 more days and we are off.

I called Celebrity and they do not have any type of "onboard messaging" package or App that allow you to communicate (text) other passengers without incurring a roaming/text fee.
Someone suggested "Whatsapp" which I downloaded yet later found this also would incur a fee if we used it onboard.
Does anyone know of another app we could use?

i would definitely rent a scooter for her. if she doesn't want a scooter then
rent a wheelchair but make sure you get a gel pad for the seat.
I was on a land tour in august (using a scooter) and the pain was so bad all I wanted to do was go home. When I returned home i went to my neurosurgeon. When I told him I had two cruises scheduled for November and December he told me to cancel them.
I am not a candidate for surgery so I am scheduled to meet with the pain
management people to see what can be done. Hopefully my cruising days
aren't over.
I leave on a cruise this coming Saturday on the Summit and I am starting to have real concerns. I also have spinal stenosis in both the Lumbar and Cervical areas. I was diagnosed about 2.5 months ago when I got the MRI's due to increased pain for my herniated disks and nerve damage.
My GP is totally against all back surgery with the exception of severe cases but wanted me to see a surgeon. He did not think I was a candidate because I could still function normally , albeit the pain. So I went to the Pain Management Doctor that he recommended.
What a mistake. On November 9th he convinced me to get a epidural.
Now I can barely stand up, am in constant pain and using my heating pad constantly. My concern is that I wake up at all hours of the night in pain and I am afraid that I will ruin this cruise for my husband. This will be his first cruise.
I have looked over the deck plans repeatedly looking for a public area I can go to if I wake up at 2am and want coffee so not to disturb DH with the knocking of room service and can find none.
We are booked on the Summit next Oct for a 14 day NE/Canada cruise and the only cabin they had available was an Concierge that was not accessible and I took it.
Now I think I have made a huge mistake.
Oh, I did rent a standard scooter when we booked in the summer but that was when my only issue was standing for long periods or walking long distances. Thanks to the epidural that made me 10x worse I am going to upgrade today to a bariatric scooter if it is available. Their seats look more suitable for my needs.

On the 12th I returned from a 7 day cruise aboard the Splendor. While onboard I purchased Marlboro Light 100's from the Fun Shop.
My husband who did not go on the cruise and is not a smoker made a comment the other day when I opened the carton and smoked a cigarette. He said it had a very strong smell.
I checked the code on the bottom of the pack and found out that my cigarettes were made on Nov. 7, 2014.
17 MONTHS OLD.
No wonder they are so cheap. There are numerous websites online that explain how to decipher the codes.
Needless to say the cigs got thrown away.

Each adult is allowed 1 carry-on bottle of wine.
And yes, if one person in the cabin buys the Cheers package, everyone has to.

2 days, on the Valor :)

Oh goodness, I'm glad I saw your post, Playa Cofi. I'll be traveling to Vieques in a month, and had been planning to take la launcha from Fajardo. However, it sounds like that may not be such a good idea, based upon what you write. I also have no idea yet how to get to Fajardo from SJU--had hoped to figure that out upon arrival.
Are there not taxis in Vieques, for getting around? Why do you say that a car rental is a necessity?
We're booked at Amistad, and are looking forward to it!
Well if you are booked at Amistad you are in good hands. Since I do not know the details of when you are arriving, etc. give the owner Owen a call. He is an expert on advising his guests on the best way to arrive in Vieques depending on your arrival time, etc.

Enjoy your time on Vieques :)

I stayed there last month. As someone stated above, it is directly across from American Airlines in Terminal D.
Your baggage pickup is downstairs on the first level pretty much under Terminal D. All terminals share the same baggage area, if I am not mistaken there are only 4 carousals . Take the elevator or escalator back upstairs.
The rooms are extremely small but it is the only game in town if you want to stay there.

Hello bobo Smith, we too will be on the Miracle on the Alaska cruise, will be there the same time. The ship leaves on Aug 19th, will also be flying in from Fla. We live in North Fla, Tallahassee. Also have been wondering about the clothing, guess just take warm clothing.
Hurricane, my daughter went to the Film School at FSU..as far as clothes I have been preparing for colder weather but the reports are now looking more like 68-70 during the day so I am getting real confused as to what to bring....
-
I have seen mentioned "Wine packages" and the Cheers package". If using the Cheers package the wine has to be under $10 a glass. Does anyone know what brand the Miracle uses for it's Cheers package?
Also I am having problems trying to get new information on the wine package since the pricing has been changed to how many days your cruise is.
I sail on the Miracle next Tuesday.

Scheduled to head out Sunday on the Carnival Valor. Also of concern is flights into San Juan.
I am not sure which port you are headed out of but 5 minutes ago Carnival Valor was in Curacao....

Im going on the Enchantment of the Seas RC
Enchantment of the Seas just literally about 10 minutes ago left the port of Canaveral and it says it is headed for Nassau which I would have never thought would happen. I guess they must be arriving prior to Bertha getting into the area.
