  1. Both Bays (Vieques and Fajardo) went dark enough to the point where they stopped doing tours. Fajardo's was due to the runoff of the plant but Vieques was because of heavy rains.

Both though are returning and it is always good to check in advance the status. When my daughter was here mid Feb, Vieques Bio Bay was only at 50% so the tours were cancelled.

The question you basically want to ask is at what % is the bay glowing.

  2. To be honest that area of OSJ is not noisy at night. It is attached to the State Dept (literally on the right) so security is always great.

Any late night partying and loud noise is down on Fortaleza Street which is blocks away.

There is no nightlife (bars/restaurants) fronting the Plaza other than the small one at your hotel, which is very small and quiet.

  3. I have stayed there many times both as a Howard Johnson's and with the current management.

In my opinion it is literally the best location to stay at in OSJ and the trolley stops right outside (OSJ is hilly so taking the trolley helps)

I only stay in the suites. All of the other rooms have no windows so they tend to be very dark, although they are better appointed as far as furnishings.

As stated it is located on the Plaza de Armas and there is a 3 story Marshalls store also located on the Plaza, a great place to pick up last minutes items for your cruise.

  4. I am an expat living in PR and am entertaining taking a cruise, I am 55 and married. Hubby is 70 and has no desire to go. Hence I would be going solo out of San Juan and this would also be my first cruise.

In order to be prudent do you think it would be better if I picked the cruise or for that matter cruises I am interested in and wait till a few days prior to the cruise to see if they offer a better deal on the solo price?

My thinking if the first one does not give me a deal, I can always try the next.

    Thoughts anyone?

  5. I agree with the person who posted prior to me. Since the tours do not start until dark and the possibility of traffic getting back into OSJ personally I do not think it is possible to do.

One thing you have to consider is traffic in and out of OSJ can be brutal, especially on weekends.

If any tour operator promises you that he can get you from OSJ to Fajardo and back is going to take your money and you will in all probability miss your ship.

The biobay in Fajardo in not located in Fajardo itself, it is north of the city. From Fajardo to get to the outfitter who would take you on the trip is an additional 15 mins easy, each way from Fajardo.

I hope this helps you make up a difficult decision.

In all, the answer is no.

    Sorry.
