  1. We were just in the Sky's Owners Suite with the connecting penthouse this past June.  Beautiful room, but I can tell you if you have loud snorers in the living room like we did, you are definitely going to hear them in the bedroom.  Then again....that's why there is alcohol 🙂

I was on the Escape the following week.  Recently Platinum, I asked about the free tour of the ship.  I was told I could take the tour, but my non-platinum cabinmate (girlfriend) could not.  Is this standard NCL practice?

Yes...my daughter and I are platinum, but my husband is not.  Only my daughter and I could do the behind the scenes tour, which was really good.

NO !!    We were just on Escape a few weeks ago and did Moderno.  No way is it worth that!   We did it on our meal package.    The salad bar was very nice, but the meats were just OK.

The beef  was all too rare for our taste, so when I asked for something a mid more medium, it seemed like a chore to the server (or gaucho or whatever we call them)  .. he said he would come back with another and did ... like 20 minutes later.

Otherwise it was dry, very overly garlicked chicken breast, sausages and lamb.    Sides were OK but I wasn't the least bit WOW-ed by Moderno.   Very pretty place ..  but $48?   No way.

I have to agree...I was on the 9/1 sailing and the service at Moderno was terrible....I don't even think we were offered all of the meats...usually they "over-serve" you, but this time we had to keep looking for the servers...it was part of our dining package, but I was disappointed in the experience 😞

On it now. Things were pretty hectic in the beginning but they’ve since died down and people are settled in.. I feel bad for the crew, speaking with some of them, it seems like the trip to NY was through very choppy waters and then there were all the disgruntled voyagers as well.. hopefully the rest of the trip goes well.

I was on the 9/1 cruise and it was rough the first night and next day leaving Bermuda...the ocean got smoother the closer we got to NY.....Crew was awesome and I think the Captain did a wonderful job getting us home safely....disembarkation was chaos...but the cruise and the weather in Bermuda were both great!!!  I don't think most of us were disgruntled, but some people were scrambling for later flights...everyone seemed happy our cruise was extended 🙂

  5. Here's my dilemma...Daughter and I just became Platinum...and Hubby is gold.  Daughter and I are #1 and #2 on reservation for drink package reasons (hubby doesn't drink)...so as a perk we also get dining package...my question is are the platinum dining vouchers person specific, or do they apply to the stateroom?...just trying to figure out logistics....

    Thanks in advance....

  6. Listen, even if there were NO open windows, would u sit your toddler on a railing and allow her to “bang on the glass” 11 decks up?  Blaming RCCL is ridiculous. as tragic as it is, and I cannot even imagine what this family is going through, unfortunately, IMO the grandfather is the one who put the baby in a dangerous position. 😢. Very, very sad.

You make your reservations exactly 120 days prior to cruise. Book fixed price restaurants first followed by all of your a la carte restaurants. There is nothing special about booking Platinum dinners. If you have a 3 meal SDP and 2 platinum dinners, you make 5 reservations. You can also make additional reservations for the other nights that you can charge to your room and pay for.

On the ship, you will get two coupons in your room. When you are going to a Platinum dinner, hand the coupon the the hostess when you check in. She will mark it on your seating ticket.  If it is at Cagney's/Le Bistro she will get you the "free wine list".

Note: There was a post earlier that they just raised the $20 limit to something higher. The Platinum Dinners are One Appetizer, One Entree, One Dessert (slightly different than the SDP).

Note: Don't forget your free laundry (one bag per Platinum member).

Note: If you want to take the complimentary Behind the Scenes Tour, you MUST go to the CruiseNext desk on embarkation day and make a reservation.

Not sure the Specialty Dining Restaurants share in the standard gratuities collected by NCL. If you enjoyed the meal and service at the 2 Free Platinum Dinners, it would be nice to leave a tip. It is totally up to you. We do for the 2 Platinum Dinners. But on the Specialty Dining Package Meals, NCL adds a 20% gratuities charge on to them. So, we feel an extra tip is not required there.

Hi morris. We will be platinum on our next cruise.  Can you tell me how the two platinum dinners work with the SDP and how do you designate reservations? Ty

  9. I have found lately that it sometimes takes a couple emails to them before you get a response. We travel in a large party of 6 so they normally make our reservations for four and let the onboard concierge know it’s for six. We have never had a problem.

In the context that it has been used on these boards it most definitely has to do with what others do or don't do.  Almost everytime a thread has been made regarding the Haven the statement "we work hard all year" is brought up.  I don't care what room someone chooses for their cruise but I do believe that most cruisers "work hard all year" and choose their rooms based on what they desire not because they didn't work as hard as others.

I think sometimes on here the perception is that the Haven if full of Thurston and Lovey Howells....lol....I think some of US who have made the comment that we work hard, made It to illustrate that we make it a priority to book the Haven because we like the atmosphere and amenities.  It has NEVER been said by me to insinuate that others don't work hard, only to make a point that I'd rather take a Garden Villa cruise versus three or four cruises a year.  My choice, as is yours....no one is right or wrong here.  Its a preference.

And my family sails in the Haven. We play a little game where we see how long it takes people to notice the Haven room card around our neck or notice when we push the Haven floor in the elevator and make a rude and snarky comment. Usually doesn’t take too long. 🙄

Same with us....and on the ships when u have to put your keycard in the elevator to reach that floor, forget it. Lol.

I think there is a strict distinction between splurging and being rewarded vs. having stuff taken away from you.

We choose to cruise 2 times a year vs 1 cruise in Haven.  I do not begrudge the people who do cruise in Haven.  And for the prices they are paying, they do deserve more, I get it.  My problem is why does giving the Haven more mean taking away more from the non-Haven people?  They are not connected.

You want to give the Haven more open space, do it.

You want to increase the Vibe area so you can sell more tickets and make more money, do it.

But why do those have to come at the cost of taking from the people who don't fall into either of those categories?  Why do you take the open pool deck and divide it by 3 when there are way more people who are Not Haven or Not Vibe?  Why do all 3 classes get equal real estate?

I agree with what you are saying. I just think the Haven is more lucrative than they even imagined. Therefore they want to make it bigger and bigger at the expense of others 😕

  13. Just got back....we had Villa 28...so when you get off the ship you check in at the Villa check in area and then they shuttle you to the Villa area.  It was very nice...Villa is well air conditioned with a TV and free on demand movies for those who do not want to sun.  a FULL bathroom, and fridge stocked with water.  The beach area is directly in front of you with chairs, umbrellas and floating mats for use.  Continuous bar service and private buffet area.  The buffet food seemed to be the same they served in the main buffet area.  It was well worth the money to us, as we were a group of 6.

  14. Just curious.....and we sail all types of cabins.....when did it become a crime to work hard all year and splurge to be pampered on your vacation in the Haven?....The idea that everyone in the Haven is a pompous snob is just unfair....I have seen a lot of pompous snobs on cruises and they were not in the Haven.....LOL....some were tho…. 😉
