Yes there is an app that you can use on the boat for FREE messages. Load the app "Cruise Ship Messenger" before you get on the boat (requires wi-fi to load) so you won't have to pay. If you wait till you're on the boat you'll have the pay the Wi-fi fees but only to load it. Once you have the APP put in your friend/family's IP addresses and you're all set. You can call or text for free thru that app when you're on the (free) ship network. This only works for people on the boat with you. It was fabulous during my trip in January.

I can't believe they don't talk about this more on the HAL boards!

Is this an Android only app?  I don't see it in Apple's App Store.

  2. Do you mean tender? Sometimes there will be tendering from the ship to the port if there is no room at the pier or if it is a smaller ship that may not to use the pier because of costs associated with that option.

How embarrassing! Yes, I meant tender. Celebrity Equinox at Basseterre, St. Kitts

  3. We winter in FL and could easily take a "Last Minute Bargain" cruise . . . but where do you find them? I've heard stories of folks getting really cheap rates for booking cruises that depart in just a few days from booking, but sure can't find any of those. Anyone know of a source?

  4. I have a hair straightner with bristles, it works and heats just like a flat iron. It was almost confiscated, they thought it was a clothes steamer.

So clothes steamers are not allowed? Was your straightener in your checked suitcase that they rummaged through?

  5. On the Getaway and Escape . . .

Is there a deck (by the water) that is good for walking outside with a few lounge chairs "here and there" for relaxing and reading a book?

Also, what about a jogging trail on the Getaway and the Escape?

I cannot find these by looking at the deck plans.

    Thanks for any comments

  6. On some cruise lines you have to commit to eating in the restaurant at a certain time every night. On others, like Norwegian, they have "Freestyle" dining where you can make reservations for different times on different nights or just walk in if they have openings.

How is dinning handled on the Celebrity ships?

    Thanks

  7. I'm trying to decide between the Summit, the Equinox, and the Silhouette. From studying the deck plans, it appears that the Silhouette MIGHT have space to walk at least half way around the boat on Deck 5 where the lifeboats hang, but I can't tell for sure. Is this accurate?

Do either the Equinox or the Summit have an outside place to stroll, with lounge chairs to sit and read or nap?

I'm not referring to jogging tracks. We are older and want an open place to walk and relax without interfering with the joggers' domain.

Thank you for any light you can shed on these 3 ships.

  8. We are sailing next weekend and have reservations at the Moderno, Cagney's and the Teppanyaki specialty restaurants.

Are long pants REQUIRED for men, or would nice dress shorts and shirt be allowed?

I've read the FAQs, but the are a bit ambiguous. If you've eaten in these and can respond, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks

  9. To those of you that just sailed on the Epic. We are sailing on Feb 18th to ports of Great Stirrup Caye, Cozumel, Grand Caymans and Ocho Rios.

Which of these ports require tendering?

I've heard that you need to make reservations for the tender. Can that be done now, or only after you are onboard? If onboard, where do you make the tender reservations?

    Thanks!

  10. This is Michael from Indianapolis, and I will be on the Splendor with you on March 5, 2017. I have used and will again use Native Wave Water Sports while on Grand Cayman. They took very good care of our group of 8, and we did the Stingray City and Island Tour, which was $60 per person and well worth it. I have a group of 15 am bringing, although only about half will do this tour. You go to Sting Ray City, Turtle Farm, Rum Factory and Hell. Think you will not be disappointed if you use this company. Let me know if you need any other info on our other stops. On Cozumel, we are either going to use resort for a day, or walk around the port area where they have many different shops, and eat at Pancho's Backyard, a really nice restaurant right by the ship.

Which "Rum Factory" was included in this tour? Was it the "Cayman Spirits Co. Distillery?

Their website quotes $70 per person now. Did you negotiate the price since you had a group?
