  1. It's already March 9th.

Im aware of that, thanks. I'm on the next sailing so wondering how bad it is in the USVI's and if it's expected to continue or affect the next sailing (mine) at all time wise. I know a lot of people on these boards know MUCH more than I do when it comes to things like that.

But thanks for pointing out I may have not known what day it was. All set now.

  2. One week until I board NCL Escape for my first solo cruise as well... I have some of the same apprehensions others seem to have but am determined to enjoy my time away whatever it may turn out like...

I usually have booked port excursions in advance when travelling with others and am unsure what to do (if anything) in this case. Can anyone give me their two cents? Should I book something and just hope I'm not the only solo or wait until I am on board and hopefully meet other like minded travelers possibly looking to book something with another person travelling on their own?

  3. Thanks for the info everyone! I actually called today and they said they would not give me access on my key card. That's fine though, I'll look in the freesgyke Daily and meet up with other solo cruisers that way:). Never noticed in the past as I suppose I just wasn't looking for it the other two cruises.

  4. Hello! I booked the Escape cruise for March 12th today on a bit of whim. This will be my 3rd cruise and I'm so excited however a bit concerned as this will be my first cruise solo. I booked a balcony and was wondering if I will be able to join any of the activities or meet ups that seem to be part of the solo experience when travelling in a studio with access to the lounge?

Is there a way to go about trying to get involved with other solo travellers for meals/shows/excursions even though I won't be in the studio section?

  5. For those who want to know....

"Elbow Beach has undergone a change in management and we now offer a more private luxury resort experience to our hotel guests with exclusive use of our private beach. Therefore, we will no longer offer day passes or beach passes to cruise passengers or island visitors staying at other locations.

The public side of Elbow Beach is for use by the general public and is accessible via the Tribe Road just west of our hotel only with no concessions for umbrella or beach chair rentals."

  6. I played, 3 years ago, the Ocean View golf course.

We choose it because it is a 9 holes par 35 on the water. Actually 3 holes are very close to the ocean, the rest is "regular" golf.

We went during a drought and the grass ( fairway)was not perfect but the greens were ok. Since we went late afternoon...I think we had a 3 o'clock start, it was very cheap to play.

We came across 2 or 3 roosters on the course and we had fun.

If you are an avid golfer and want a challenging course....then NOT Ocean view course.

If you want to play a fast round of golf in Bermuda to gain "bragging rights" with your friends ;) ...then go to Ocean View.

    Have fun !!

Merci! We decided to play Port Royal, but thank you for all the info! Don't care about bragging rights just love to golf and wanted a good course and pretty view, plus they have a great deal on right now:)

-pas de problem, je peux etre de l'Ontario mais je parle francais aussi:)

  7. But - do not try to eat everything on the ship the first day. Your digestive system will need to adjust - belly ache on board is not welcome (take indigestion tablets with you).

Take half the clothes and twice the money.

    Pack a sense of humour.

Expect small glitches and go with the flow.

If in doubt - ask - the staff are there to try to give you the best holiday possible and are always willing to help.

I try to bring it with me everywhere ;) We're going to roll with whatever happens I never expect perfection, seems easier to me to look for the bright side of whatever situation it is...

I will definitely put some clothes back in the closet now that so many have said the same thing...thank you!

  8. We stayed in 8726... Loved it so much we rebooked same stateroom for next January. You are going to be very happy. Near everything, but yet away from the crowds, noise, etc. In my opinion the large balcony and the stateroom location added to our cruise experience!!!

    Have a wonderful cruise!:)

I can't believe I went from worried to ecstatic about our cabin in such a short time! CC members are awesome!

  9. Yes, they accept American money in Bermuda. Bring enough for souveniers you might want, tips for porters, cabbies, and guides on any excursions you might take.

Many people give extra tips to cabin stewards, bar tenders, and waiters who give great service, even though they are covered by the DSC. If you use the services of a butler, concierge, or children's staff, they are not covered by the DSC. Tips would be appropriate for them. We brought more cash than we thought we'd need, and were able to bring the remainder home. $100.00 per day might be a good figure, although you might not need that much. It depends upon how much you plan to buy off of the ship, or extra tipping you care to do.

Thank you, off to the bank!

  10. Have never used the duct tape but those clips you can get at a dollar store are handy for keeping your towel attached to a beach chair and I have discreetly clipped an item of clothing to my balcony chair while underway if I had to wash something in the sink that would not dry quickly.

I also did not pack a belt on our Epic cruise, which I would count as our first cruise on a modern big ship. I was so active I actually lost a little weight and since I pack light I would wear pants more than once. The darn waists got loose and as I was dancing on deck my pants would start to sag. I wish I'd thought to bring a belt. I had planned on gaining so had packed for that possibility. Obviously I am way more active on a ship than going to work and home, another plus for me to cruise more often!

Bring a small umbrella. I not only used it for rain but for sightseeing in the sun. Shaded my eyes and did not have to worry so much about sunburn.

If you plan on buying alcohol or even a painting from Park West to bring back be mindful of overweight baggage. We were so shocked we did not think to empty and redistribute our bags and had to pay overweight fees, but then again we don't normally fly...

Explore the entire ship the first day. Invariably we find some gem of a space the last day, like a quiet spot to relax...

That's amazing! If this happens I can guarantee I'll become a cruise junkie!
