  1. Water taxi ride to Atlantis can be fun. You're seeing the cruise ships from a different angle so some photo ops. It's up to you how long you want to wander around over by the Atlantis. Then take the water taxi back to the harbor and walk to the fish fry area. Try some cracked conch, conch fritters, conch salad - something with conch! Then head back to the ship. He'll get a chance to stretch his legs, run around, whatever. It's just fun to get off the ship. When I return to it, it's as though I'm coming home.

  2. 1966 UN Council on Student Travel - the ship was the SS Aurelia. Drinks were 50 cents. Sailed out of New York harbor. Took 9 days to cross the Atlantic. The United States ocean liner was leaving New York at the same time. It passed us, returning from France, halfway through our voyage. I was seasick the entire time. I remember the drink prices 'cause I was 18 years old and legal. Thought it would be the height of coolness to order a grasshopper. Only had one! Spent the rest of the time sick. Vowed I would never get on a ship again! Ten years ago, patch behind my ear, I cruised once again!

I know this has nothing to do with boxed wine! Memories! Never ordered a grassshopper again!

  3. Nassau isn't one of my favorite ports. We have enjoyed taking the water taxi to Atlantis and back. It's cheap. Maybe under $10. round trip per person. Try to time it so the water taxi is fairly full when you get on it. They wait to fill it before they take off so it can get a little steamy waiting! Once there, it's a little hike to the Atlantis. We usually just wander around and then head back to the taxi and back to the ship. You can get some nice photos of the ship from the water taxi.

    Have a great time!

  4. I find this posts rather amusing. There are so many "tastes" in books that one persons suggestion can be another persons crap. With hundreds of thousands of books... well.

Note: Not slamming anybody here... just running my mouth.

So true! Subjective just like food.

I love to read so I'm always happy to "talk books!"

    Love to eat, too!

Books and food are pretty safe topics. Bring up "TIPPING - DAILY SERVICE CHARGE" and watch the fireworks!

  5. Katia Lief's series of books featuring Karin Schaeffer as the main character. I read "Money Kill" first and then worked my way backwards to the first (The Domino Killer - short story).

My last cruise in November 2013, I read Donna Tartt's "The Goldfinch" and Jhumpa Lahiri's "The Lowland."

"Skinny Dip" by Carl Hiassen is a classic. Part of the plot is based on a cruise ship!

Karen Olson has a series of murder mysteries featuring two main characters that are fun. Annie Seymour (news reporter) series is based in New Haven, CT. Brett Kavanaugh (tatoo artist) series is Las Vegas based.

Recently read Rowling/Galbraith's "The Silkworm" and King's "Mr. Mercedes" - both page turners. I preferred Rowling/Galbraith's "The Cuckoo's Calling" but that's just me!

    Have fun! Happy reading!

  6. Low tide is when Gold Rock Beach is at its most breathtaking. Check a Grand Bahama tide chart for the day you'll be there.

That being said, it's quite a hike from the cruise port. If you don't mind paying the shore excursion fare, I would take the ship's offering. Also, buy some homemade snacks from the woman selling them by the side of the road at Gold Rock Beach. She had some coconut bars when I was last there.

    Have a wonderful time!

  7. We "inherited" a clamshell one time at GSC. A couple were heading back to the ship and asked us if we wanted to use theirs. We said "Sure! Thanks!"

That clamshell was hot! After sitting there for awhile, I couldn't take it any more. No breeze. So, live and learn. We had tried to book one on the ship but they were sold out. If you don't mind paying for it, I would book a cabana.

  8. Taino Beach is the stretch of beach that Junkanoo Beach Club and this timeshare are both located. For my money, I would take the $10. round trip group cab ride to Port Lucaya and head to the Grand Lucayan and pay $10. each and spend your time there. You can order food and drinks or head across the street to Port Lucaya Marketplace where there are bars and restaurants. Or, take the $7. (each way) group cab ride to Junkanoo Beach Club and pay $5. for a beach chair. They, too, have a restaurant and bar.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time!

  9. I have a small fleet of ship ornaments. They're small - like 3" long. They are now $6.95 each - used to be $4.95. Sometimes they're boxed - sometimes hanging by their gold thread. They're really cute and look accurate to me. The ship's name is on it. I pretty much have one for every ship I've sailed on. I forgot to buy one when we were on the Wind. Another CC person was nice enough to buy me one and ship it to me!!! What a sweetheart.
