Lovers of FTTF don't hate the non-believers. You do your cruise your way, we will do ours. I like it, I also like a balcony rooms, a night in the steakhouse, gambling in the casino and Cheers, all extras not everyone participates in. No one is right or wrong with what they like for their cruise experience. As long as it doesn't affect your experience who cares?

    Couldn't agree more.

Another vote for the aqua show. Be sure to book it for as early in the cruise as you can because it is very dependent on the weather and can often be cancelled. When that happens they reschedule for later in the cruise.

Also the ice skating show should not be missed.

And then there's the running track on deck five. Great for runners (no having to dodge loungers up on the pool deck) and non-runners too (there are a few deck chairs right at the back of the ship with an amazing view of the wake).

Depending on where your balcony is on the boardwalk, you may be able to see the aqua show from your balcony.

  3. Just booked the Mardi Gras for Feb. 2021. We are platinum with Carnival but haven't cruised with them for awhile. We have been doing some Royal cruises lately. My beverage package question is this. Does the price of the package change from time to time as it does on Royal Caribbean. Right now it is 51.00 a day. Will it stay at that price or fluctuate from time to time. Can you buy it now online and change it if the price goes down. Thanks in advance for any response.

Does anyone know why Mariner's itinerary changed from day 2 being the Coco Cay day to day 4?  I specifically made sure that it was going to be the only ship scheduled to be at the island before booking it as our honeymoon cruise.  Now prices for cabanas and other things have went even higher at Coco Cay and we apparently get to be there the same day as Grandeur.

We booked this cruise on 06 June 2019 and Coco Cay was and still is listed as the 24th.

They sort of lie about stuff all the time. It is not unusual. Just go to a different bar. It is something that we no longer make an issue of, unless we need to get the bar manager involved.

I went to the Schooner bar just outside the casino and ordered a Mojito. Bar tender said he was out of mint and couldn't make it. No problem ordered a different drink. Next day I went to Bolero's and asked the bartender Raquel if she would give me some mint. She said no problem. I then went to the Schooner bar and ordered a Mojito and got the same response no mint. I then said to the bar tender here you go and handed him the mint and told him they have plenty at Bolero's. Now I don't know if it's a communication problem or what, but if a bar runs out of something and the rest of the bars have it ,then why don't they restock at night by checking if another bar has something. Makes you think the Bartender didn't want to make that drink. Not saying that is the case but it is very confusing.

Hey guys! We are cruising on the Allure soon and I was looking through the website and came across Insiders View... Momma Mia. Has anyone done this? Is it worth the money ($49.00)?

You get premier seating (if you get there early). You get a cocktail, and signed photo of the cast. Subtract 10$ for the drink and10$ for the photo and now the other features of the program are worth 29$, which includes the backstage meet and greet and the seating. If this is the stuff you like to do then I think it's worth it. Personally it's not my thing.

Sailed on the Super Bowl 5 nighter, Jan 28th to Feb 4th, Wed to Mon.  This was my fourth time on the Mariner and she did not disappoint.  This was the first ship I have ever been on, back in April of 2004, and I have loved cruises ever since.  Even after 22 plus cruises I was excited to get back on this ship.

Embarkation:  I have never gotten on a ship this quickly before, we got out of our cab at 1:01 pm and walked into our room at 1:22.  The Port of Miami knows how to get a cruise ship loaded quickly and efficiently.  We carried on our luggage, made all our dining reservations, and were sitting by the pool by 2.  We always have lunch prior to arrival to avoid the zoo at the buffet the first day.

Dining:  We ate at a specialty restaurant each evening since I stumbled across a good deal online and jumped on it.  Enjoyed Chops twice, excellent at usual.  Izumi once, also excellent.   We did Jamie's Italian one night and were disappointed, food and service were just ok and not worth the extra charge.  We should have known something was wrong when we walked in and the place was practically empty.  This was surprising since we always really enjoy dining at Giovanni's on other ships.  The crown jewel of our dinners was easily Chef's Table.  We had very high expectations for this 'event' and loved every minute of it.  The food and wine were spectacular, the ship's exec chef personally explained each course and answered all questions, the service was spot on, and we were able to meet the captain towards the end.  I would highly recommend this dinner, it turned out to be one of the highlights of our cruise.

Room:  We had a balcony cabin on deck nine, room attendant was great, so we gave him an extra tip.

Sea Days:  We mostly hung out by the pool on deck 11, chair hogs were out in force, but we didn't let it bother us.  Since we didn't have our 12 year old son with us, we spent a lot of time in the solarium, nice and quiet.

Ports:  Cozumel,  been here at least 10/11 times, so we tried a tour around town, with a tequila tasting, booked through Royal, it was fun and got us off the boat.

Costa Maya, never been here before.   After looking at Trip Advisor, we booked the Maya Chan Beach Resort excursion, owned by an American expat family from California.  We were so happy we booked this.  After getting out of the maze that is the Costa Maya port, we found their representative and they took care of the rest.  We had our own private little beach bungalow, which included two recliners, a table, a small bed, and a hammock.  The service was top notch, a beer was brought out to me while I was floating in the ocean, and the food was very good.  It was the perfect romantic getaway, my wife didn't want to leave.

Shows:  Were very good, as usual, especially the ice show.

Cigar Bar:  Deck 5, forward, was remodeled into a library, very disappointed with this, as I popped in three times and there was never anybody in it.  Oh well, times are changing.

Debarkation:  We did the walk off with our luggage, and it took about an hour once were left our room to to get through customs.  They have a facial recognition scanner, didn't even have to show our passports.

The Mariner is now about 15 years old and is in great shape, I can't wait to sail on her again.

I will be happy to answer any and all questions as truthfully as possible.

    Just my opinion.

Will be on her in October. Hope the sky pad is open by then.

Great info on this thread!!  After all our cruises, this is all new to me.  We are not big gamblers but will be at BJ table every night of the cruise.  I keep my bets at $10 a hand, DH will usually bet $25 to $50 a hand.  We generally get off the ship with our money and have never left behind more than a few hundred dollars.  I just checked with his C&A number and there was nothing (but our last Royal cruise was a few years ago).  When we get off Symphony, I will check to see if there are any offers.  I'd be happy with anything 🙂

These offers will come from the casino host and have nothing to do with C&A. If you book one of these offers through the casino host that is who you have to deal with for any booking questions going forward for that booking. You will need your C&A number for further ID sometimes

You had to wager way more then 3,000.00 to lose 3,000.00 unless you lost every wager. Most people gambling at the tables tell the dealer etc. that they want to be rated while gambling. If you wager 3,000.00 dollars while playing and you win 1,000.00 dollars. you lost 2,000.00. but you bet 3,000.00 in the casino. They rate your slot play by your card in the machine that you are playing. If you put 1,000.00 into the machines that is what they rate. If you win 500.00 then you lost 500.00, but you are rated by the fact that you wagered 1,000.00.

I usually play slots and some 3 card poker. Within 15 mins time form entering the casino and putting my card in a slot machine the casino host will come to my machine and say welcome back Mary Ann how have you been, can we get you a drink etc. On my last cruise I wasn't feeling well on some days so I didn't get to gamble as much. On the next to last night the casino host came up to me and asked if everything was ok because you haven't been wagering as much as you usually do. They don't track your winnings but your wagering, unless you hit a big one

Yes it does depend on how much you wager but also how much you spend.. There were times I wagered between $25 and $50 a hand at blackjack but because I lost $3000 for the week the Casino host bumped up my certificate at the end of the cruise. So basically they use many factors.. All I am trying to say is the casual gambler is not going to get a comped cruise.. I get many comped cruises intact thats all I go on and I go on like 7-8 per year..

The cruise lines sell discounted alcohol.

But not everything is a good deal.

Go to your usual liquor store and take photos of the stuff you like with the prices.

When you get on the ship compare what you like to what is available.

Some things are great deals, many are not.  purchase what you will actually drink.

I have stuff in my bar 11 years old just because it was a great deal...……...

    Highly Agree with this post
