  1. Food so far looks lovely.  Is that speciality dining?  We have been on Oasis previously and loved that ship.  Never sailed out of Southampton before but looking to do this in May on Anthem.  Is it basically the same ship?  Would be good to know how the sailing through the Bay of Biscay goes, if seas/weather is rough?  Look forward to your updates 😁

It is the same price onboard. We usually buy in advance to avoid having to do it when you are on holiday (when we have done it onboard we needed to purchase the  package and then queue up at guest services to get a new keycard - probably took 30 minutes in all.

The other potential disadvantage to waiting is in case there is a price increase. You don’t tend to get any warning in advance of that.

If you have on board credit then it may be worth waiting to use that.

Depending on how old your younger son is, I would keep expectations in check regarding the kids menu. Our son stopped ordering off it when he was about 10.

He's 12 but I know he wouldn't like the speciality meals... he's more a chicken nuggets and pasta kind of child 😄

Yes, that is an offer available to people who have taken the free at sea meals. It gives the option of another two meals at about a third off.

It won’t help the person asking the question as they are looking to buy meals for someone who doesn’t have the free at sea ones, so there won’t be an option to upgrade that.

Yes I've just seen that and it is only for the first 2 guests

You get multiple appetizers, one entrée, multiple sides and dessert. There are exceptions for fixed price restaurants (where you get the fixed price menu - Teppanyaki and Monderno) and small plate restaurants (where you get a set number of small plates - Sushi, Raw Bar, Tapas Bar, Food Republic).

Kids do not eat specialty dining food free. Kids can eat off the kids menu at any restaurant. I would venture that the agent you were chatting with was thinking you were asking about the complimentary MDR menu.

Monderno is not an issue. I kinda think that Teppanyaki, the would prefer you actually order for your kids since they are taking up a spot (especially on a small ship), but you can ask for a kids menu.

Thank you, so the above menu is complimentary for children in the speciality dining restaurants?  I was thinking of buying a 2 meal package for my 16 year old so she could join us, and my younger child have the menu above.  Is it cheaper to buy a dining package before you board do you know or is it the same price on board?

  5. We are wanting to add our 16 year old to our speciality dining bookings (we have 2 free reservations for myself and my husband).  Is it best to add a package of 2 meals on extra before boarding ie is it cheaper to do so?  Or is it same price on board?   I believe my younger son can eat off kids complimentary menu at the speciality restaurants

  6. Does anyone know what's included in the restaurants for speciality dining? Is it a starter, main and dessert? What about teppenyaki or moderno where there is no a la carte?
Also, I read on NCL site that kids can eat free from complimentary menu but I got in a chat with NCL who denied this. I copied and pasted the info from their page but she said that was no longer the case? I'm wondering if anyone who has sailed recently or on there now can confirm please?

and the card often needs to be handed over for dining (specialty anyway) or drinks, even if it is of the RFID type for the room.

ah ok, might as well get a lanyard then rather than keep taking out of a wallet

    Yeah, I saw that.

unfortunately our cruise in October goes from Piraeus and they still want a negative test prior to boarding! Maybe by then they will have changed their minds? 🤞

ah yes for Greece still so.  Maybe ... it's a few months off yet

Bought our LFTs from Boots and did an observed test, over video link, with dochq.com. Certificate (unfortunately positive) was emailed within a couple of minutes of completing the test

what happened with your cruise did you get money back of FCC?

When we did our tests on Zoom the certificate we got was “signed” by a doctor. But we never saw him, just had the process observed by a minion who was observing at least 6 other people at the same time. Hubby and I did them together, didn’t need to log on separately one after the other.

Who was that with? Did they watch each one of you do a test and drop the fluid onto the test strip? Do you then show it them online to get the certificate?

I'm wondering the same.   It's the bit that says  COVID-19 antigen or NAAT test (i.e. PCR) result administered by a verified third party OR  via medically supervised home test:

The Randox home one I've done gives a certificate that says it's been verified by Dr someone or other.     Hopefully by the time I go it will be a bit clearer (or no testing at all !)

I've just checked the NCL rules and still stating the same about being supervised.

Just looking at dochq.com for testing.  We have boxes of Flowflex acon antigen tests that we got when the children were testing for school, these were free. Flowflex are the ones sold by Boots also . Are they the ones you got from Boots?

  13. I was under the impression (for NCL) to have 'supervised' tests, whether that be in person or over video. Have some people just used the postal / email tests successfully to board?

Moderno and Teppanyaki have a set cover charge is you don’t have the dining package whereas the other restaurants have a la carte pricing. This is why they are displayed differently, but both are covered under the dining package (except for a couple of upcharge items in the a la carte places - see the menus for details).

There is a 20% gratuity added to any charge you incur, but as you have the dining package that charge will be zero unless you get an upcharge item. If you do get an upcharge then you pay 20% gratuity on that.

    Thank you 🙂

    1. I use a third party website to do a fake booking and it will show all of the cabins, actually it limits it to 15 cabins per class.  If you were a scanner of the sea you could do the same thing.  (I would put together the 8th and 5th word of that last sentence!)

    Thanks 😄

Im not sure about the Jewel layout, but when we were on the Epic there weren't any cabins near the elevators.  To access the cabins from the elevator bank you need the key card.  We had a 2 bedroom on the Epic and in a word it was AWESOME!  Because of the Haven experience we are fully planning on bidding on our next cruise, which currently is pretty empty!

How do you find out how full it is?

    Hi Cruisers!
We currently have an aft suite on a quiet floor for an upcoming Alaska cruise on the Jewel. I’ve put in for an upgrade to a 2 bedroom. I’m worried that we might end up by an elevator or around noisy families (no offense, kids!).  If you get the upgrade, you’re stuck with the room location, & it could be bad, right? Anyone regret getting the upgrade?

You could retract your bid? I think you can do that before it's accepted

  18. Hi all

    First time on NCL.

Just looking through the app as we have a couple of meals included in the dining package.  Just looking through them, the Teppenyaki and Moderno are showing at £0.00. (It also says children can order from the complimentary children's menu.)

Why does it show £0 and the other restaurants show 'a la carte'?

It also states there is a 20% gratuity added on.  Is this not already included in the free at sea dining package (as it is for the beverage package)?

What are we allowed to order for price of the package?

    Thank you
