  1. There are certified Princess employees in there, too. I don't think there's just some big room with little kids running around where random adults can just touch them. I know 3 is the minimum age for the Pelicans, but I don't think I'd leave a little one that young in the care of anybody except me.

It is just like preschool, right, but more fun!

She has been in Carnival's, they start at age 2 and it was AMAZING!!!! Very trained staff and no other adults in for ANY reason, you can take your child out, but you can't go in! However, it was just a room, small quarters, no idea what it is like on Princess....

  2. I've taken my under-3 to the kids center before. In our case, there were no Pelicans onboard and we were able to use the Pelicans room. On cruises with more kids present I'd imagine it could be a mixed group.

The kids programs are highly supervised. You can't just leave with someone else's kid. And these aren't "random adults", they are people there playing with their own children or grandchildren while the counselors are focused on the 3 and ups. I don't see the problem?

Thanks for the info....you never know... Someone's relative could be a pedophile! I work for a school district and you would be SHOCKED at how many people's prints don't clear!

  3. My daughter is 3, so old enough to go into the youth center, I have been reading that kids under 3 can go if accompanied by an adult. Does this mean there are other adults in the youth center with the kids? Is it a separate area? Is it weird to have other adults in that area? How do they guarantee that no one takes other people's kids or touches them or talks to them?

Seems like creepiers have an easy access, you never know if Uncle Jimmy is a creeper, right?

Anyone else see this as kinda odd?

  4. Just back from RCI Alaska cruise with 17 month old grandson...and not one of the buses...cruiseline shuttles or private "bus" transportation had seatbelts...and so NO carseats.

Great news... What buses did you take?

  5. If you have small children and are concerned about safety on the buses, you might want to reconsider the Mendenhall shuttle buses.

I'm not worried about her safety, wait of course I'm worried about her safety just not on these buses ;) I just want to make sure we won't be denied boarding!

  6. I just Googled it, because I don't recall ever seeing a car seat being used. Here are the Denali rules - http://www.reservedenali.com/plan/alaska-car-seat-laws.aspx

This doesn't specify what type of vehicle though! Here in California we have child restraint laws, but they are not for all types of vehicles.....

Seems odd and would sure take a long time at each bus stop to have parents install car seats! Would be funny to see!!!!

  7. Someone stated in another thread that children must use carseats on buses also in Alaska! Does anyone have experience with this? Planning on taking a few public and private buses.

  8. I applied for my passport on April 22 and they received it

April 29. I am still waiting for mine. I called and the lady

said for me to keep an eye on my status in the next few

days and if nothing changes to call back. She also said she saw

they were working on it but stopped which does not sound good to

me but she couldn’t tell me why. So of course this is making me

a nervous wreck. I leave July 6th and I'm afraid I will not have

my passport or a birth certificate in time.:(

Was this for a new one or a renewal?

  9. today the message changed to:

your passport application is in the final processing stages.

Your passport application locator number is xxxxx

when you applied, you requested routine service.

This means you should receive your passport on or about 06/11/2014.

    And....

I'm doing the happy dance because we got an upsell to a balcony on the westerdam to alaska and my passport will be here and i'm so happy i could sing!!! My co-workers are really glad i'm not tho

    awesome!!!!!!!!

  10. I submitted on 5/15 - and will need it by 7/2....I requested another birth certificate just in case the next week and still don't have that either. I have 30 days, I should not need xanax for this!!! I'll give it two more weeks before I really freak out.:eek:

That should be plenty of time.

I originally submitted mine with 9 weeks to go, but was returned for a bad picture (thank you UPS store). They received my second round on 5/29, my check cleared on 6/2! I need it on 7/15!! Fingers crossed I have it by 6/29!

  11. My problem is a 3 year old is alllll over the place so sometimes I miss stuff as she's running around, I can get the close ups, but not so much the further away shots. I'm thinking for sports too, close shots and down the field shots.

For example on previous cruises I'll take a shot of her, family, etc., but miss something off the ship...

    Does that make sense?

  12. Hi all.... I am just getting back into photography, I don't really have the "eye" for good shots, but having fun trying ;)

I've had the Canon Rebel t4 with the 2 lenses that are stock for over a year, getting pretty comfortable with settings, light, etc.! However, changing lenses is silly to me and want a more inclusive lens.

    I'm looking at the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS - $425 or the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 VC PZD-$ 450- plus $70 rebate off.

Mostly shooting my 3 year old and now she's gearing up for dance recitals, sports, parties, Disneyland, etc.! Also, going on Alaskan cruise in July.

Not sure if I really need the 18-270.

    Any tips... Suggestions, etc.!

    Thanks

  13. Beautiful setting and easy to get to on public bus (which is only $1.00 fare per person each way). In addition to the beautiful setting there are several other buildings you can visit on the property, including one where we actually saw a new totem pole in the process of being carved. Fun to watch!

Where can I find information about this bus? How long should we plan to take this bus, visit and get back? We also want to see the lumberjacks.

    Thanks
